Is there a backpack or something I can use to increase the size of my carry inventory?

There are several licenses to increase your regular inventory.

The third level of the mine has a rare backpack loot item to give you another 24 slots. You may be able to trade for this on the discord if you don't have access to that mine level or are not ready to venture that deep.

John sells a hand truck that gives another 24 slots by carting around a storage item.

Utilizing all of those at once can massively expand your carrying capacity.
