Mine Crusher

I'm having issues using the mine crusher. I throw a ruby gemstone in it but it won't crush it into shards. Is there a way to activate it that I'm not seeing?

you need to land it in the middle. The crusher has a very small area of activation.

For me it was working for some time then it got broken. I've tried removing mods, reinstalling game, different tricks but nothing has worked. My workaround was moving mine shaft to other location (by talking to Fletcher). It started working again.
