De-constructing Sailboat

I was merrily sailing along when my lovely new sailboat and I fell through a glitch in the sea and got stuck on the sea bed. I passed out trying to get us back to the surface and awoke in my house. My sailboat is still at the bottom of the ocean.
I have been able to swim to it and can get back behind the wheel so have driven it along the ocean floor to the nearest island - where I had hoped I could force it back up by driving into shallower water (didn't work) but I was able to get the boat to a place I could stand next to with a mind to smashing the boat and resetting it.

I tried iron ax/pickaxe and a copper hammer - even tried poking it with a spear but nothing happened. I don't have any power tools yet - and used all my spare iron to make the boat!

I'm hoping that maybe when I next open the game, it will have magicked itself back to the surface but just in case it hasn't, does anyone know how (or even if) we can smash the boat so I can reclaim it.

Thankfully it returned to the surface so I just had to swim out to fetch it.

The speed this boat moves at makes it much harder to avoid the glitchy areas though so I doubt this is the only time I'll experience this problem.

With it sitting on the surface, none of the regular tools seem to do anything to this boat so it seems reloading the game is the only solution.
