Multiplayer, friends doesn't get quests?

Just started the worl with a friend, and Fletch won't give her any quests? Only milestones.

From what i've seen the person joining can't see the main quest IE "move in 5 people" but can get tasks like buy a piece of clothing from the NPC.

Apart from the main quest line and placing buildings, visitors can do almost everything else! Also, building up your friendship level with NPCs can be done both on your own island and visiting someone else's.
