You can all share money, you have separate counts but can click on it and drop money for each other.
Non host players will spawn near the town hall but can sleep in any bed, you can build additional houses that your friends can decorate and store their stuff in. It doesnt assign to players but they can change the looks of the house, put furniture in them and make the house theirs.
License points are separate for each player. So are the things you achieve in the journal and what daily quests you have. You also do your own daily quests for the npcs.
Non host players can harvest crops, fight animals, do quests, etc.... 90% of the game is fully multiplayer except the stuff below.
The host:
Only one who can move people in and move buildings around.
Only their hearts and money spent counts for getting people to move in\
Must have the mining 3 license to build the mine
Can sell animals and see the animals in the animal tab
All players must go down into the mines together. I think this is a technical limitation, the mines are rather large and it might just be too difficult to run both the world and the mine.
edit: Im also adding Saraphine's tip, have each player do the first day or 2 on their own island. At the very least they need to unlock the nails recipe and the recipe for the basic storage box.
But don't let that keep you from getting the game, sure your friends can not help get visitors to stay (the townies) but they can still help you build and decorate, interact with townies etc.
A tip though is that your friends play on their own island the first few in game days to unlock the basic blueprints.
From what Myrkana has said, it doesn't sound as restrictive as Animal Crossing.
I'm going to pick this up with some friends. It actually sounds super fun. I'm sure we don't mind swapping towns/hosts just to move in new Npc's and such. But if the majority of the game can be played via multiplayer, I'm sure we'll have an insane amount of fun.
Thanks again.
Lots of people were complaining about multiplayer because they immediately joined their friend's map without spending a day or two in their own map to trigger the first things they need to progress.
Only the host can place and move buildings and only their relationship with the NPCs count for moving it is the real difference. Everyone maintains their own licensure, blueprints, and skill trees. So you can't use vehicles you don't have a license for, but you can use everything else. So that's like 95% of the game is the same for hosts and guests.
I just got the game today, same with my friend. But we were wondering how to build a house that he can stay in by himself as I don't want him sleeping next to me...
