Something that makes this game different to Farm Together is that there are NPCs you can befriend and have move in on your island. There are quests and seems to be a story to follow. You can trap and hunt animals. You can swim and dive. I'd say there is a lot more to do in Dinkum in comparison.
As for which one is better, I guess it depends on what you want in a game. I like Farm Together because I can switch off my brain and just play it. But with Dinkum I need to think about what I want to do next or what quest I should be doing and stuff like that. Hope this helps.
You can only save your game by sleeping and progressing to the next day, there is combat elements which some people will not like. There is a lot of farming elements included like fruit trees, corn, wheat, carrots, potatos, melons and so on. It depends on the season of said crop and you can plant/grow flowers.
I dont like to play games with mods enabled but im sure i read the other day of there being mods available to make mobs passive so in theory if you need to fight it will be a lot easier.
