Dinkum
Krafton
So I had this on my wishlist for a while, but didn't know if I wanted to buy it, but I thought I knew it was an indie title.

I ended up seeing it had a Free to Play weekend, and put in enough hours I figured it was worth buying at a slight discount.

Then I decided randomly to scroll the store page again and saw a negative review that mentioned the dev "selling out" to Krafton.

Then I looked this up and saw a modder talking about how this company seems to have a hand in many mobile games that are free to play with loot boxes and MtX, which leads to my main question:

Has Krafton or the dev given any assurances that the game won't shift models and add MtX or Loot boxes?

Note: I don't like the potential privacy issues the refund petition post mentions, but to be fair, I bought after that happened, so I can live ignorant to whatever that is, but if the game shifts to some freeium model with predatory transactions, I will be one pissed off pup. :steamfacepalm:

Apparently per the agreement, James retains all rights to the original game.

Krafton is developing dinkum together, which is a mobile game in the same universe set years after dinkum. Krafton is responsible for the publishing and advertising, as well as other media.

So I fully expect Dinkum together to have loot boxes because krafton has the rights to that game as their in house development firm is responsible for that. But the original game? No.

Yeah that's on mobile, Google encourages mild personal data collection on non-EU countries through ads. Steam don't allow ads according to Steam TOS (includes mobile version too if has crossplay).

Both KRAFTON's PR reps and their Privacy Team have publicly (and privately) stated that the new EULA isn't changed: they won't do any more with your data than what James had already been doing (which is "don't sell to advertisers").

The Privacy Policy they've slapped in to Dinkum and are getting into hot water about states they're free to sell your data to advertisers.
That Policy supersedes their public word as it's a legal document.

I don't think KRAFTON is lying about what they'll do with your data - they've got nothing to gain from doing so - but it's clear incompetence for the doco you're signing to say otherwise.

Yeah also James posted this upon KRAFTON publishing moving:

"KRAFTON, Inc. will be assuming responsibility for the provision of the Dinkum service. Accordingly, your personal information will be transferred to KRAFTON, Inc. (Contact: Yeoksam Center Field 231, Teheran-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea, privacy@krafton.com) for providing games and related services. If you prefer not to have your personal information transferred as part of this process, please contact us at privacy@krafton.com, and we will take all reasonable steps to minimize any inconvenience.

KRAFTON can only access official account information provided through the platform, and no additional personal data transfer will be transferred.
With the change in publisher from James Bendon to KRAFTON on Steam, some Steam account information (nickname, Steam ID, etc.) will now be accessed by KRAFTON. However, this is strictly limited to the official information provided by the Steam platform."

I've just posted a community post about this, but the EULA that KRAFTON has implemented has a number of terms that don't make sense for a game like Dinkum unless they have intent to use them. Folks are liking to bicker that it's "just standard eula stuff" but I am not willing to accept that as an excuse.

Mobile games are notorious for their toxic monetization, and a mobile publisher should not have the ability to go after people for playing their single player game however they like.

I also posted a steam review outlining much of my complaint, though my community post is admittedly more chill. (the second one, anyway.)
One EULA to rule them all. One EULA to bind them.

Yup, that works when you're a dark lord.

Well that's not Krafton's. That Eula is a sign of a very poorly funded and staffed legal department.

I still think it's funny how they ban us from intercepting data to and from a central server in dinkum. Despite Dinkum not having central servers.

Can't simply walk into Mordor if it doesn't exist!
I appreciate the responses, who is the mod that selected the answer, the Dev?
