but in general ...
there were several big updates since 2022, lots of things changed which impact the gameplay significantly, like eg the Stamina revamp. i play since yesterday my old save which i also didn't play since about 2022/2023 & relied there still on cooked bananas & apples, those are absolutely not sufficient anymore. the pivot towards better buffs from food is huge. there were players who stopped playing cause of those stamina changes, but that's oc overdramatic, one has to adjust & those changes make the gameplay more dynamic.
the seasons changes have also made the gameplay way more interesting. every season has its own vibe & activities, not enough imo but there is more to do just because there are those seasonal changes.
the most significant release update brought the sickness of farm animals.
there is the Wishing Well which ads some perks to the gameplay as well.
so either way if you start over or just adjust your old save, both is possible.
i play both btw. have started several new saves since the release & play my super old saves as well. both is fun
edit
one important thing related to old saves is there are new NPCs, which require lots of space, dinks & certain hard to obtain resources as well. the gameplay moved by now more into the necessity to play every aspect of the game. so if you have planned your town in a certain way, you might have difficulties to fit in all the things the changes need.
So far, I haven't really run into any issues with the new stamina system. I get so much food as rewards I had to make a chest to keep it all in.
