Scary Mines
Is anyone else scared to go into the mines? I now refuse to go down there because it's creepy by myself. Now I have to struggle to get iron ore. I wish there was a way it won't be dark and nothing attacks me. 25000 dinks isn't worth it. (I already know about the torches. I just don't like having to place them to see.)

I went into the mine, paid 25k for the pass, mined a few bits and then got chased and killed. I was only down there for like a few mins and already fed up with having to stop and fight bats. Totally not worth it for me right now. Not scary though.

Before you go eat a couple cooked croc meat for a nice buff to hp/energy.

If you run out of the drop location and get attacked, circle it and try to pick off bats then dart back into the drop room. You can go in and out of there and mobs wont follow you in, can eat food and rest.

Once you manage to clear the drop in area, you have some wiggle room to move about and go out/back. Try the flashlight "torch" that John sells too, if you have not gotten the mining hat.

Use the map and mini map. I typically nav using that to get back, the drop location is marked with a pickaxe by default.

My best tip is to use the Candle Hat. It's effective but a bit ugly. :winter2019happyyul:

Didn't start doing mines until later on when the majority of the recipes called for iron ore, but a few tips/tricks if it helps to ride off of what Rhaane said above:

#1. Don't forget your Old Keys. Takes two keys to fully open the doors in the mines - you'll see a grey circle with a square representing a building with loot in it on your minimap as you explore. You can find some super valuable equip in there such as Mu Harnesses, Flaming Bats (a baseball bat with a fire DoT - whack and run!), boogie boards, gliders, paint, etc....

#2. Use your food buffs. You can keg the yellow flowers to create a 10 minute mining buff that drastically reduces the time it takes to mine ore. With an iron pickaxe its 1 hit on copper nodes, and 3 hits on iron nodes. Bring some actual food like cooked meat to heal your health if you find yourself in a weird situation.

#3. Don't stop unless you are in an area with a lot of potential or if you see a ruby. The stray nodes are not worth the time investment unless you find yourself with nothing left to do. A good run can pull 2-5 rubies and over 100 iron ore if you just pace through the tunnels looking for chunky areas and the occasional red glimmer of rubies.

#4. You can break the cars in the mines. Iron pickaxe can break them, not sure if copper can - didn't have one on me at the time. This rewards you with a lot of mechanical parts.

#5. Use a polearm to kill bats. The extended reach makes it 100x easier than whiffing with a bat or hammer.

Go in prepped! Two copper or higher pickaxes will be enough, a polearm, and a more heavy hitter wep will take care of most that comes your way.

I got mine from an NPC clothing trade quest. It's amazing, you don't have to charge it like the miners hat.
