Explore the world or get access to the deep mine. You can also sometimes buy copper bars at John's store.

You can also do multiplayer and have a friend make a island just for farming the starting resources like that.

If they start a new character and get to the point of unlocking multiplayer then they can invite you to it. Then you all simply gather the easy resources and save before leaving so you can bring them back to your main save.

The Deep Mine...I've seen that mentioned but am not sure how I do that. Just buy the next level mining license? Also, thank you for reminding me I can buy it from John! I've got all this money from endlessly searching for copper and picking up and selling everything else and I forgot he has copper for sale right there!

You're a lifesaver!

The mine is a deed you have to unlock, like you got a deed for John's store. You can then place the entrance yourself.

My hunting level is still pretty low so I can't make any copper weapons. I found out the hard way and lost 25K to the mine. I'm not even sure if you can get copper in the mine. John's store only sells 1 bar on the day he sells it. Looking for copper can take up the whole day without even finding any and a good day I would find around 9 ores, and not 9 rocks with 3 ores just 9 ores. In other words 3 rocks with 3 ores in them. So now I just wait for the days John sells copper bars and save some of them to make copper fishing rods, take the boat out and fish all day. Although I'll also use the copper bars to make a copper pick hammer but I won't use them to make an axe. Sorry but I got too frustrated walking around looking for copper. How does it work? How long does it take to respawn or does it even respawn? Or is it once you've mined it it's gone forever? I can't remember if I got copper ore from the same place twice. LOL...I thought I did but I'm not sure.

Copper in the overworld will respawn, it's supposedly also based on your mining level, so the higher the more spawns (and higher tier spawns i.e. iron) you will see in your world. No idea about the time it takes for the ores to spawn again tho. I think it's roughly 1-2 weeks, judging by the hill next to my house which has a spawn zone for ores.
The deep mine has copper too, but it's hard to spot the difference between the 3 ores if viewed from a distance, and in addition only around 33% of the ores will be copper, so it kind of feels like it's rare/non-existent at times. Spending a few hours in the mines you should be able to find 40-50 copper. Hours as in in-game hours. Real-time would be maybe 10-12 minutes to mine 40-50 of copper, alongside 40-50 of the other 2 ores, each. Just bring a spear for the bats, they're very annoying. Also bring some food for healing, like cooked apples or limes. Also, it's highly recommended to eat fried eggs or other foods that boost your stamina bar.

Thank you, your post is encouraging. I guess I'll have to keep levelling up in both mining and hunting. So far I've only been hunting when the daily tasks requires it. Also I read you should go into the mines with at least copper spears which isn't available to me yet. I'll learn to be more patient with the game :)

If your mining level is up and you have a copper pick, head to the desert there is copper there and the larger grayish boulders will sometimes drop tin, copper, iron and shiny rocks. And when you put those shiny rocks in the grinder you will get some random ore drops. Happy Gaming

Honestly, the only thing in the mines that are really dangerous are the bush devils, so once you manage to consistently do battle with those, you're probably ready to go down there.

That other poster is correct though, smashing large boulders will often drop random ores too.

I personally did okay with a regular spear. The hounds can be an issue, but you generally don't run into many. Worst case scenario you run into 2 at once and gotta camp on a boulder while stabbing one, or both, to death. Bats are one-shot by basically anything, but the spear has the best range and hence is a great bat killer. But if you only have a regular spear and are facing a hound, either just run to a different section that's harder for it to access, or just dodge and poke it to death. I'll admit combat can be a bit stiff, but dealing with a single hound, even if there's bats, isn't that difficult. The attacks are rather telegraphed and bats generally cannot hit you unless you stand still for several seconds. Just bait the hound's attack and stab once or twice. Usually takes around 30 seconds to kill it that way. Oh also, if there's another creature, just let them fight. If there's a hound on you, you can also run near a croc and have them aggro on each other, usually the croc will win.

Deep Mine is the answer.

You get the Deep Mine deed after the following licences:

Mining Licence Level 1
Mining Licence Level 2
Deep Mining Licence Level 1

Once you build it you need to buy a mine pass for 25.000 on Johns for each try (or use one of the mods on nexus to make it one for all)

Here some spoilers so be warned:
Deep Mine is a randomize dungeon that have very large chunks of ores, monsters and some closed spaces that needs you to use 2 old keys for each chamber. These Chambers have exclusive wooden chests that contain itens such as Mighty Seeds, Dog collars, Mu saddle, paints and level 3 weapon you can use even without having it's licence (I'm a level 2 licence and use the level 3 I get from mines). Iron Pickaxe and miner hats with their own light are also in these wooden chests. It also has the bat statue that need 20 batwings (rare drop) to give you a bat glider. Also all the walls are destroyable and give 1 stone each so it's not only impossible to be stuck but also ample suply of stones. The Deep Mines reset each time you go down so it's never the same dungeon and never out of resorces

I'd recomend to get franklin to make you the eletric pickaxe as soon as you can to make it easier to mine down there faster too.
