Harvest Sugar Cane?

Greetings! I just planted some sugar cane but i dont know how to harvest it. If i try to use any tool it destroys the plant. The onions i planted were simply lootable. Any suggestions on what to do?

Did you try the scythe and wait until there was a glowing around them?

I did use the scythe, it destroyed my crops so i reloaded the game. The glow wasnt there though... The onions had a glow around them. To be honest i kinda forgot how long it would take to grow the sugar canes, so i thought they must be ready after so many days. My fault, sorry! Thanks!
