Fishing
Am I missing something, or am I just bad at it?

I understand the basic mechanic. (I think.) Cast the line near where the fish are, they nibble a few times (with the small "plonk" sound) and when they bite (bobber jumps with a "sploosh" sound) I reel them in by holding left mouse button while watching the bar so they don't get away.

My problem is I rarely seem to catch them with the left click. All it does is reel in an empty hook, seems like maybe 3 times out of 4 the bobber jumps but they don't really bite. Is it random? Is it based on timing? Do I need higher skill?

Thanks - I did see that, as well as some video guides, which is why I'm wondering if there may just be something I'm not getting. It seems like others are getting the fish every time while I am only rarely hooking them, mostly wasting time & stamina.

This is where I am failing: (From the wiki)
"the fish will bite and the bobber will drop below the surface of the water. This is accompanied by a Thunk! sound in game. When this happens the player must quickly set the hook by pressing the left mouse button."

I do all this, but it doesn't hook the fish. The bobber dips, I hear the louder "thunk!" sound, I click left button and no fish. I hold left button and no fish. I vary the time between the thunk and the click, no fish. Is it just random, or based on some combination of skill and rod quality?

i found that alot of it depended on my computer.....i had an older desktop and fishing was a pain in the rear! I bought a new laptop with a better graphics card and now fishing is a breeze. If you wait till you hear the bloop and then click right away, let them swim till they pause then reel in, once they turn let up, they stop, reel in, etc.

I'm having the same issue, it's not my computer, the fish just don't seem to catch after a few nibbles > thunk > left click, the line reels in slightly but with no fish on it

From the wiki:
When this happens the player must quickly set the hook by pressing the left mouse button.

I have been exploring mods and there is this one that makes fishing easier:
https://www.nexusmods.com/dinkum/mods/15

From the mod I understand that you have slightly less than half a second to press the left mouse button. Since I am 65 years old I don't have the reaction time needed for this so I intend to use the mod to increase the time which is one of the purposes of the mod.
