Restarting because my map sucked

I have over a hundred hours on my first island. I noticed when watching videos that other maps were just so much better. There is very little continuous land on my original and almost all of the rivers are diagonal, making bridge placement wonky and almost impossible without some terraforming. I was in the midst of building up an area to move my house and I just got sick of it.

I should have done this months ago. My new map has much more possibility.

Ugh, moving the WHOLE TOWN in again and losing all my progress. So, yeah, I'm going to cheat a bit. But I think it will be worth it.

I didn't like my map at first either, because what felt like 65% of it was nothing but Desert.

I tried terraforming a bit, and even got the tools to do so, however, they were just too trashy in order to terraform properly. Most of all the amount of grass, and different types of grass seeds would have been insanely difficult to obtain by normal means.

On your new island, I'd suggest checking out a mod called "Chunker". It allows you to do do a LOT of stuff when it comes to terraforming.

And I'm not afraid to admit I cheated to duplicate grass, and some decorations as well. Decorating, and designing MY island, is one of the experiences after all. I even helped my friends out by duplicating 12K+ of each type of grass seeds for them, so they could also decorate their island, and place certain types of terrain down they want.

I just started the game and got a bad map as well. I plan to just restart because I have done nothing in the game yet so it won't really bother me. Is there a way to choose a map?

No, they are randomly generated.

I'm definitely cheating. I've already done a *ton* of grinding. I need the game to be fun, and it's not fun to grind for months multiple times.

my second map is pretty awful in terms of the constant need to terraform. I am not particularly far in the game (I just got my museum up) so I think I will restart AGAIN to help minimize some of the tedium of constant terraforming just to add a chest lol

I recently restarted and just used the in game dev console to speed things back up, it didnt take long, would recommend you note what you have so you can just imitate it quickly.

There is a way to choose a map, but it requires the use of mods. There is a group of three mods that make a big difference:

Custom World Generator:

This is needed to allow for using custom world seeds

Preview World Seed:

This allows you to see what the world will look like before you go through the character generation and world creation.

Pangea (Map Generator):

This provides a custom world generator as an add-on to the above two mods. This gives you more land and fewer rivers.
