Let's talk eggs &milk
Some of the recipes require chicken eggs - not the large ones. Same with milk vs the quality milk.

Once the animal is producing the larger/better quality item how do we get the basic ones needed for the recipes? Do we just have to keep buying animals?

Can't we just get recipes where the higher quality eggs will work instead but regular/starter eggs/milk won't work where the higher quality is needed?

well you could stop peting your new animals, then they will never give the high quality items.

but yes, there should be a way to use both, high end and normal ingredients.
i wouldnt even mind to lose a high quality milk instead of a normal one to get the same result.

another way around is to use mods: there is one that use the tabel saw to "cut" 1 high quality item into 2 normal ones.

Oh interesting. I hadn't modded Dinkum yet as I was kind of waiting for it to be finished first, but that's a way to go I suppose.

I know the workaround for this issue but I still support the suggestion mywastedmind makes: only HQ for HQ recipes, etiher for LQ recipes. I don't want to be penalized for petting my animals!

As far as I know, this is still a relevant and valuable suggestion. It feels weird to not be able to use a bigger egg in lieu of a smaller one. They're not usually THAT much larger; we're not talking ostrich eggs here. An option would be that our chickens could sometimes lay 2 regular eggs instead of 1 big one.

How about a mini-bird breed, like a version of a small bird that never gets bigger, Australian Pekin Bantams anyone?

The in-game solution is to not pet one chicken; how large eggs they lays depends on how friendly/happy they are. Feels a bit mean though.

Unfortunately the dev has changed this and simply feeding them over time will increase their hearts. Starving them also won't reduce hearts either. The only solution is to sell and buy new vombats and chockens
