Dinkum
What to do about Dinkum/Krafton et al? Let's do a S U R V E Y?
Noooo! I'm so confused. James ... Dinkum ... Krafton ... Tencent? Idk what to do.
I would love to know what other Dinkumites are thinking. Can we try this?

4. look in your library. See games, where Tencent have up to 99% shareholders and you have bought it without a second to think about it. And than check that the 14% shareholder in Krafton isn´t enough to make descissions in this company.
(One really big Tencent part is Epic with the Unreal-Engine. And than remember the unity ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, how many datas the engine sends everytime when you install/update an unity based game. And don´t forget Reddit and Discord as commen social hubs for gamers. Have a nice time)

Probably 2, but could be 4 if we get more transparency about the game and have better control over our data.
2 or 4

Thx subwaybananas! Since I did not yet send an email to Krafton/James to opt-out , it seems I am too late to make any decision that will secure my data? There was no timeline stated on the non-reply that so the dastardly deed is done? Am I correct about this? I am having withdrawal symptoms. Uninstalling seems moot?

The request to delet your personal data is everytime an option. If you concerned about tencent, than its nothing you have to fear. The 14% is nothing more than an usual investment, to increase their own profit. With 14% you have no relevant voice in the company. And as other studios, where tencent have a minority, reported that tencent haven´t tried to take influence.

This here is only a usual solo dev who looked for help with the "non-game-development" parts. I can´t say how it goes in the future, but JB works further on Dinkum like before, without all the time consuming management part. And the data we talking about, is shared with every publisher you have a game.

But if you really want avoid everything with tencent, than good luck and have fun to spend your time before you purchase any new game to make sure, tencent doesn´t have any investment. They have ownership in over 600 gaming studios and many more (like reddit and discord). Some are well known and obvious, some not. But every information about this is public, if you know where to look.

I don´t want to say Tencent isn´t problematic, but don´t fight at the wrong end. Or to say it in other words, if you think this here is to hot, you could figure out, that your whole library burns already hotter than this here.

2 and the last game i buy from this Dev and will also leave negative review.
I've uninstalled for now. I'll think about it for a while. It's really annoying having to read a ton of corporate jargon, agree to terms, and sign eulas for a game I bought and played on and off for over 2 years. Plus, the game doesn't even look that good to me. I just start games, delete them, start a new one, and so on. Almost certainly 2.
I play for fun. I like to use mods. I paid for the game, which isn't online nor competitive, so I feel like I'm within my rights to play it however I want... Somehow, them coming up with this now, makes me feel bossed around. And I don't like it one bit.

Totally agree. I'm buying fewer and fewer games in general, so I don't have to deal with all that boring corporate stuff. How can they possibly think people want to rack their brains for 3 hours just to buy a game? James Bendon, never again.

4. I haven't played this since 2023 as not much has drawn me back (no big updates), but hearing that I have to deal with data privacy now is a game-killer in my opinion. I don't want to deal with it, nor do I care to. I just want to play a damn game, and that should not be a concern.
So my opinion is as good as "2".
1, but 2 if they go down the lootbox path.

I'm not concerned about what Steam collects as every game does. I am concerned if the publisher starts messing around with the game in ways that promote microtransactions and lootboxes.

2.....no meaningful updates in almost a year and now this. No thanks. Game isn't THAT good and James has had issues with listening to his players for a long time. And even bigger issues interacting and communicating with them.

Cutting bait and moving on to games who's devs care, listen and act on the feedback.

I'm less concerned about the data than the direction. Everything has your damn data these days.

1. Absolutely flabbergasted by the naivety of some of these posts. Literally 99.9% of everything, and I mean EVERYTHING you do on a PC or Smartphone takes your data. If you use Steam, Twitter, Facebook, Tik Tok, shop online, bank online, use Google, or look at any webpage, your data goes to thousands of different companies. If you don't want to give your data away, then smash up your PC, throw your smartphone down a mine shaft and go and live in a cave.

Dinkum is a really great game with a fantastic developer. If you enjoy the game, then play it. If you don't, then don't play it. Simple as that.

Wut? Breezy Autumn was released in May of 2024 and Flaming Winter in October of 2024. How were these not meaningful?
1.

i am more at rest with Tencent than i am with any of the myriad of US companies, Steam included i am using, so ... yeah ... that's how life in the current world works,
relax. at least i do.
