Multiplayer is the same as single player, except only the host can place and move buildings, further the town quests, move NPC's in, and sell farm animals.
Non-host players can build relationships with the townsfolk and receive requests from them. Each player can unlock their own recipes and earn licenses in multiplayer if you have played single player far enough to unlock the nails recipe first.
Suggestions are always welcome and are considered for future content!
Not true. Stardew Valley allows players in Co-op to have their own house on one farm as well as accomplish tasks set for each individual players. So i wouldn't say No Game in the genre does this. More like It's an exception and not the rule.
I get the player host being the only one to place amd move buildings, but the town quests is bogus. Why have all that player help and squander it? Consider letting everyone playing be able to contribute. Otherwise, whats the point of befriending people in town if you can't help get them to stay and be permanent? Seems counter intuitive. I do like the addition of multiplayer housing. But as its not a thing yet, I'll have my friends hold off on buying the game till it's a reality.
I feel like you might be mistaking the game for something it was never meant to be?
Dinkum is a single player game with the "co-op" option of inviting your friends to visit your island, not a multiplayer survival sim with dedicated servers. Look on the store page -- it's not listed as an MMO, it doesn't even have "multi-player" as a tag or listed in its description.
The "ABOUT THIS GAME" section reads:
... Share your new home with friends and protect each other as you explore beautiful landscapes filled with dangerous predators.
If you were, or are, expecting something else, perhaps leave that in the suggestions thread.
I also dont really understand that sort of mentality. People see screenshots of a game - probably dont read the description and then are dissapointed when they game isnt what they wanted it to be like - when in reality the game always stated exactly what it is and what it isnt.
If you want an MMO or a Coop-Focus game - just look for such a game.
So to make it short multiplayer is like it is because thats what it was intended to be. If you want something different you should probably look for a different game and not demand a game to change just because you expected something else ...
Welp, that's a little sad was looking forward to doing the same with my wife, we were going to build a little town together, can understand the main buildings only being placeable by the host but not all the other buildables, but isn't it true the visitors can pickup stuff?
Hopefully as the game goes on there will be more of these features implemented.
In case you missed it, I'll quote my previous post :)
