Fishing Bug: Rod starts reeling before catching fish.
I just started this game and I play multiplayer (as the guest) on my friend's host island.

I'm running into an issue where when I cast my line, the reeling icon (that says go! with a slowly decreasing timer) starts, and when it reaches the bottom my line retracts from the water. I can't catch any fish because the fish don't bite on my bait by the time my line retracts from the water.

I think the timer is supposed to start after the fish bite, but it starts before so I'm a bit confused. Has anyone run into this issue before/knows how to fix it. Thanks!

There is no timer. The bar represents the strength of your line. When it's empty, your line breaks.
After a fish bites, it will start pulling on the line. If you start reeling it in, while it pulls the bar will decrease. You have to wait for the fish to stop struggling, before you can reel it in.
It will start struggling again and you have to wait until it stops and so on.
In short, while you see the red bar, stop pulling on the fish.

Yes, so my issue is that the bar decreases after I cast, not when a fish bites. The bar hits the bottom before a fish can bite. Not sure if this is intended but I can't catch any fish this way.

I'm having the same issue, did you find a solution?

Just to double check, are you guys still clicking/holding down your mouse button after casting? The bar shouldn't move if you're not clicking.

Hey all, I'm not sure if this is a sure solution, but what I did was do fishing on the fishing pond. It's cumbersome because it takes a while before you can get the fishing pond.

I've encountered this bug during the fishing competition day, and back then we didn't have a fish pond yet, and it was incredibly frustrating not being able to catch any more fish.
