My crab pots arent catching anything

I have tried placing them 1 tile below the water, dropping them 2 tiles below ground and finally on the ocean floor. Its been weeks in each place i have tried to catch something, i have 5 placed and not a single thing has been caught. I love the game but after spending a lot (early on for crafting these) they havent proved to be useful to me.

They should be in 2-deep water (so you can stand on the edge of 1 deep water to interact with them) and you need to refill them with any type of meat every time you want to use them. Depending on what you kill, I usually find it easiest to either use turkey legs, regular meat, or grub meat. If done correctly they should be ready to harvest immediately the next day. I believe freshwater and saltwater have different drop rates for items.

I do think theyre a bit weird, it's not really clear why/when they're not working and I tried having them in 1 deep water for several days before figuring them out too.
