Dinkum
My Chickens have both disappeared. Will they return or can they be attacked/lost?
I did have them fenced in but they still clipped through the fence and managed to get through the gates. I have kept the feeders topped up and made the gate is open for them to get back into their coops. Can they be killed by predators? Im wondering if they have been killed by a croc when wandering around. Does anyone know if they're bugged? I havent seen both of them for 3 in-game days now

They can be killed yes. You also might see them wondering the map if they managed to avoid being eaten. If you find one you have to whistle to get them to follow you back.

The glitch through fence bug has been a issue since release. I have not had it myself, but a lot of people have. I also do not put gates on my pens, as it was believed the villagers would let them out, but dev said that isn't the case. I still don't use gates though. It just seems to hit some people and not others, I don't know why.

Might check your animal logger thing to see if they're shown there.

Thank you for the fast response. As i witnessed the chooks pass through the fence gate i realised it was a bug that needs addressing, unfortunately ive spent the best part of an ingame day and couldnt find them at all which leads me to believe they're both toast.
Next opportunity i get i will make sure they're fenced in and have no gate to get out, can predators climb over fences? I am still a fairly new player and as the game is in early access i expect there to be a few hiccups here and there, ive fell through the map a few times already but after being patient for about 10 seconds you immediately resurface near where you fall through.
Its also a possibility the chooks did the same but its more likely they got eaten as i havent finished my town layout, my first in-game year im trying to focus on building the buildings themselves and getting an income.
Thank you for your response again

Can confirm no animals have showed up in the log. Definitely croc KFC
Are your coops right up next to the fence? That has been know to cause problems

You could always build dirt walls around them, that's what I did when mine escaped, they haven't got loose since, it works well as an enclosure, and when you need to feed them or gather eggs just jump over the top of the wall, the wall also serves as a good perch to jump up on in case a croc comes near you, plus it's easier to kill them with the spear because they can't reach you to bite.

I might do this next time Irwin visits thank you :D
Does anyone know how long you can keep chooks in the box before releasing to the coop? After buying them from Irwin can they be kept in their box that they come in?

Ah yes. Fix this and you'll be fine. Or better, expand your town and fence these new border. My chickens have their coops set back with a line of trees from the fence, but they're also somewhat centered so there's another set of fences after that. Never lost an animal that way.

ik you can place the box inside your house without releasing it, it stays in and is fine until your ready.idk what happens if you leave it like that overnight.

I personally left my first (and only) chook in its original box overnight in my tent, while I was collecting materials to craft the coop. Then like an idiot, even though I knew that farm plants have to be fenced in so as not to be eaten by wildlife, I didn't fence in the coop and it was eaten by a nearby croc. The croc thoughtfully left 3 feathers by the coop as evidence. So I added a fence and am waiting for Irwin to come back so I can try again. Beatrice will be missed.
