Does this game have a end game or goal(s) to work towards?

you have a milestone book to fill

museum to fill with fish, bugs and critters

town folk to befriend and invite onto the island

mysterious characters you can meet in the bush and when it rains.

and if your device time is set to December there is Festive items you can make with a character that appears on sunny days

there are clothing items to collect (hats, shoes, eye wear, face wear, pants, tops and dresses)

there are furniture items to collect as well as flooring and wallpaper/decorations.

there are unique items to find in deep mine

and items to craft and order to be made by a townie

there are flowers to collect / grow
many plants / crops

food items to make

pets and domestic critters to farm

unique dogs to find and befriend

a star rating system on town beauty, safety ect

and any goal you set for yourself

Part of the end game is building the town of your dreams. With endless creativity, there's no real limit.

I'm just curious about this game and considering buying. After you complete all of the things on this list, is there any reason to keep playing? Is this game endless? Any random stuff going on at endgame? Thanks.

it depends on your gameplay, i'm over 3600 hours in and still play daily and still love it. you can decorate your town, the houses etc. it is only limited by your imagination.

Are there random events/quests which pop up from time to time?

there are fishing and bug catching events where trophies are awarded. John the 1st week of summer has prizes for fish sold to him. I'm sure there will be more stuff added at final release.

There's some new stuff in the upcoming autumn update that you might like. And the dev on Reddit has stated he's working on building characters quest arcs for the NPCs.

The bulletin board does have random small quests that pop up usually daily.

These types of games rarely have an end goal. They are meant for your to make your own goals.
