in your picture you've put the coop with the back directly next to the fence. i place my coops always middle in the enclosure, at least one field away from every side of the fence.
here's an example how i'm usually building chicken enclosures & place coops

i would guess that your chicken went out at the back of the coop.
that's why i place the coops away from the fence & 2 always back to back. that seems to work for me so far. i also don't place more than 2 coops next to each other. if i have more than 4 chickens, i let one field free between the 2x2 coops set up.
since the last update i didn't encounter that bug anymore
more info & screenshots about your fence would be helpful
I buried the feathers and bought another one. seems to be staying put now. At least nugget got a proper funeral
The game treats all fences the same. It doesn't matter what type.
