chicken fence
ok... so i built this and put a baby chicken in it..

then it promptly ate the food i put out then ran right under the fence to go wander off and get eaten by a wolf.
is there a minimum type of fence that a baby chick wont go thru or under?
would a gum or palm fence work or does it have to be even better?

sigh... felt so bad for that chicken.
apparently the crude fence which says 'does the job' doesnt.

seems to be a bug that some players encounter. has nothing to do with a type of fence. i didn't encounter it so far.

in your picture you've put the coop with the back directly next to the fence. i place my coops always middle in the enclosure, at least one field away from every side of the fence.

here's an example how i'm usually building chicken enclosures & place coops

i would guess that your chicken went out at the back of the coop.
that's why i place the coops away from the fence & 2 always back to back. that seems to work for me so far. i also don't place more than 2 coops next to each other. if i have more than 4 chickens, i let one field free between the 2x2 coops set up.

no it ran under the opposite side form the coop. went right under the fence. didnt even use the coop yet.. i think maybe because its a baby, im not sure.

May have been a glitch of some sort with the fencing placement. I've had BUGS contained in the first type of fencing you can do. rustic gumwood? I had a sleeping wary mu move when I was placing a fence around it as it had already glitched down a double wall (they aren't supposed to go up or down a double stack of dirt, then it proceeded to move along as I was placing posts for a fence. finally moved back when I took out some of the posts(still sleeping BTW). Apparently they will glitch through fences etc. if you don't give them enough room to begin with.

To keep the chickens safe you need a STONE FENCE and it will say CRITTERS CAN'T get in and CRITTERS CAN'T GET OUT. I have that for my fence and the chickens can't walk through this fence! No animals can get in.

The game treats all fences the same. It doesn't matter what type.
