Question about NPCs
Hey folks, I'm considering this game, but wanted to learn a bit more before I buy it.

I've played and enjoyed Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia, and Rune Factory 4. Does this game have fully developed NPCs like those games (characters with histories, personalities, etc. that you learn about as you befriend them over time) or is more like you can recruit an NPC to open a shop in your town, but he doesn't become your buddy?

Either way, it looks interesting and I'm adding it to my wishlist right now so I don't forget about it.

The relationship building is somewhat similar, but the ability to establish a more formalized relationship with the NPCs as it relates to marriage/family isn't part of it. You can get them to move into your town and become friends with you. Once you reach a certain hearts threshold, you can ask them to "hang out" and if it's one of their days off from their shop work, they will follow you around the world and help you with certain activities. In addition, at max hearts, some of the NPCs will have a unique item they offer that can aid the player in some way.

Technically when you chat with NPCs and ask them about themselves they will leak personality traits, past history as well as their interests. So while a player may not "care" as much about the NPCs in this game as opposed to those in SDV and MTaP, they do have backstories that can be pieced together, it's just not manifested so directly in the game like it is in some others within this genre/sub-genre.

i'd say, so far the NPCs are not the center of Dinkum, it's exploration & life on Dinkum, where the NPCs are part of it
since the game is in Early Access, so no idea where the travel will go from here
but the NPCs are quite distinctly designed imo & they feel part of your life there & Dinkum itself, & i think this will be even more improved
