How to deepmine 101 - a Guide for deepmining
I have read a lot of comments now about deepmining and how its not worth it/poorly made with the one-time-pass and all, so i decided to make a little guide, to help people who struggle in the deepmines.

First i'd like to adress the issue that a lot of people brought up: the one-time-pass costs of 25k are not worth the money you make in the mines. You are not wrong but also not right about that. It depends heavily on where you are in the game. For reverence my average is about 500-700k from one trip to the mines, yes i have a lot (oh dear god i really have a lot) of hours in the game already and you wont make that much on your first few trips to the deepmine, but the sheer possibility of making that much for a measly 25k investment is worth it, if you have the equipment and know, what you are doing.
So to help you get milk the mines dry here are a few tricks:

1. Equipment Level:
Have at least Copper Mining equipment/weapons, you wont be able to mine iron otherwise and the beasts down there will take longer to hunt down.

2. Spares:
Bring spares for your pickaxe/weapon. especially if you're going down there to get your first few ironbars. Copper breaks easily so having even one spare makes things better.

3. Bats:
The Bats are annoying (the loading screen was right about that) but not invincible. If you jump and then swing your weapon at them, you will hit them better than aimlessly spamming your weapon on the ground.

4. Treasurerooms:
Bring all the goldkeys you have! there are Treasureroom down there, you can identify them as round, grey circles on the map. Every Room needs 2 Keys to get to the Treasure. its also where you can get the Miners helmet with innate light for easier navigation through the mines, if you dont already have the Candle hat. You can also pick up the treasure chest once its empty and use it as storage.

5. Light:
Buy the Flashlight- thingy from John: It can stun beasts in the mines by clicking leftclick once (also they will be immune to the stun after the first, so keep that in mind) and it provides enough light to actually see where you are going. Also: bring a few torches (10 should do the trick) you only need them when you fight beasts like bush devils to place them down and have some light for your fight. (dont forget to pick them back up!)
You can also hold the mushrooms that grow down there to have some light, but the range is smaller than torches and the light is damp, so using them as a light source is more of a emergency plan when every other light source you brought is out of energy.
You can get 2 different headmounted lights: the miners helmet and the candle hat. Both of them can be obtained from daily tasks you do for npc's. You can also get lucky and have Clover sell the Candle hat in her shop (not sure about the miners helmet, will need further infromation). The Miners helmet is also obtainable in the deepmines from treasurechests. The better source of light is the Candle hat: it has a slightly bigger radius and doenst need to be recharged. The miners helmet needs to be recharged at a charging station ever so often. If you have the choice: take the candle hat. (Thanks to Annabeth for comparing the both of them!)

6. Trapping:
Bring some traps if you can, to take the beasts back up with you and sell them (they're worth 9-12k). To trap an animal you simply place the trap on the ground, then fight the animal to drop its HP bar below 1/4th of the maximum HP and then lure it into the trap. if you dont injure the animal before trapping, it will break out of the trap. Dont worry, you wont lose the trap but you will have to try again with trapping it.

7. Rubys:
Sometimes a stone has a shiny, red gem sticking out of them, thats a ruby. Its worth varies with its weight: the lowest i got was worth 50k and the highest was 99k. You have to carry the Ruby back to the elevator( like Wary Mu eggs/Fossils/amber/Beehives). If you dont have a miners helmet/Candle hat, just use the minimap to get back to the elevator without the light, just make sure to set your elevator as destination on the map by clicking on it and then just go back the path on the minimap that is already discovered. You can sell the Rubys to John: just drop them on the Scale in his shop on the right side between his counter and the door.

8. Bufffood:
Make sure to bring Food for health/energy. Wattle brew is one of my favorites since it gives a mining buff as well and you will use up only half the durability of your tool you would normally need. You will need at least one keg and 10 wattlebush flowers to make 1 brew, so start stacking up on them early. Salad is good for the energy and easily made with the 4 Fruits you can find: apple, banana, bushlime and the blue fruit that reads like quidong)

9. Chargingstation:
If you already have the charging station and the mining drill and/or the miners helmet, you can bring it down with you to recharge the helmet/drill if needed. just dont forget to pick everything you place back up again, since the mine shifts everyday and whatever you leave down there will be lost forever when you leave the mine.

10. Bike
Bring your Bike with you. It can help with transporting multiple Rubys back to the elevator. Remember that you cant drive through water that is more than 1 tiles deep, as it will revert your bike back into pocket size(you can pick it up and place it again).

11. Preparation is key:
Organize your inventory and dont bring things down there, that you dont actually need. if you go down there on your first trip just bring 2x pickaxe (copper at least), flashlight, 2x weapon (copper again), ?x traps ( as many as you want to, or none at all if you dont plan on catching animals), old keys (as many as you have), 10x torches, mining pass (obviously).

If you die in the mines, you lose some money (thanks for pointing that out SupErDye) So be sure to bring your Money to the bank, If you have it build or go into the mines with an empty wallet.

Oh and to bring the trapped beasts and Rubys back up with you, just drop them in the elevator.
I hope i didnt forget something, feel free to add something, if you think i missed something!

Holy wall of text, maybe add some line breaks?

Thanks for the tips. I completely agree that 25k may seem unreasonable, but money is hella easy to make in the game. I do think the deep mine should be gated to be later in the game progression so that people don't get discouraged.

You can sell it to John. Just drop it on the scale in his store.

Very good post.

Preparation is key. So many players go into the mines unprepared then complain about how they are 'not worth it'.

I hope at least some of those players read your post in its entirety.

Thank you!
Yeah most players arent really angry about the price for the ticket, its more about the lack of information you have before the first visit down there.
On my first visit i just brought my pickaxe, a spear, no light and died to a swarm of bats lingering at the entrance. It took me some time to get back in there, since i also thought 25k was way to much money to lose to try again. But little by little i improved my mining game.
In retrospective i had fun with the trial and error to find out what to do and what dont in the mines, but i can understand everyone who doesnt like that.

Maybe a little dialogue from John when you purchase it.

"Remember to bring a light I hear it's dark down there" - Also call it a Mining Day Pass in order to let people know that it's a one time use possibly?

Yeah, or maybe some kind of NPC you can meet down there who sells flashlights/torches/pickaxes and kind of explains a little about the mines. So that you wont lose the first 25k because no one told you whats waiting down there. Could help to appease the players who expected a cool mining/dungeon experience and instead got slapped by a bat :D
also a little safe zone in front of the elevator and/or having bats flee and not flying near you when you have a light would be nice.

@HumbleGod Any tips are always welcome, but does anyone really expect a 'mine' to be well lit? I think mine shaft I think dark and damp. And since we can make a simple torch right off I hope players give some thought to at least using one of those.

Well, i kinda expected it to be brighter. In every other farming game that did have a mine i played, it was always lit up and i didnt have to worry about lighting. Yeah, it does make sense to be dark down there but since harvest moon, rune factory and stardew valley always had light, it slipped my mind. And the torches are not an indicator for me to make the connection to the mine, since you get them pretty early on and they dont unlock when you buy the mine deed or something.

good tips, another one thats more on the technical side. if you game on a hdmi tv and have it set to low black levels + nvidia control panel resolution settings to full dynamic range, it will literally be pitch black down in the mines lol. disabling either of these will make it somewhat playable without a light source (at the cost of your color range of course)
