At least you're thinking, that's a start !
Yes, we are on the same page. I think people are confused. I'm not shunning cheating for fun sake or worried about what people are doing IN THEIR PRIVACY. Cheating just isn't the same as it used to be. Lets take San Andreas for example. You activate a cheat and it disabled your save. Youd play around and fly cars for a bit then get back to the story. No big deal.
People can now just mod back achievements though and share false accolades online. I have a legit save I worked my butt off for 60 hours, and another save I totally wrecked and bugged up for an hour or two with a trainer and commands. I'm not saying there isn't any value in that, its just unfortunate that my two hour cheat file has more progress goal wise than my 60 hour save. I personally would never go online acting like its a legit file, but many people do and it makes mine and everyone else s legit games have less authenticity. Idk who just used the compactor mod or who really terraformed their town. I wont be able to believe anyone who claims they completed the museum legitimately. Obviously its not a BIG deal, but it sure be nice if cheaters could exist in their own space without those negatives.
I don't know what the solution is for PC. I know people will find a way. A ban system seems too harsh for those who genuinely want to just have fun and mind their business but people often ruin a good thing for others. If I had my way, I would just normalize creative modes and implement a ban system for Steam games like consoles have but its just my opinion. People get prison time for cheating console games in Japan. Apparently they are more my type of people. They actually care about fairness there. Their Unfair Competition Prevention Act even protects from Action Replays or Game Shark usage. Awesome if you ask me.
Cheats on most older games were even included by the devs with no downsides. Games are meant to be played in the way you have the most fun - except for competitive MP games. The biggest problem today is the third party cheat software that is actually a danger to your pc because its mostly not by trusted sources. And many SP games now even try to sell stuff that was cheated years ago - and even trying to force people to buy said things by making SP games grindy for no reason.
And achivements - seriously do people actually believe that a single person on this planet will look at their profile thinking "wow that person is so aweseome he got the run for 20 hours without pause achievement he must be a great person"? Just play for yourself to have fun - tahts the main point of a hobby. And no people wont care if you invested lots of hours to get a worthless achievement.
If someone is creative and has a gorgeous town, literally who cares if they unlocked the compactor and moved it all or used a compactor mod? What does it matter what tool you use to get the job done?
Do you honestly think the town is any less beautiful because someone wanted to skip just to the designing part?
Do you get mad at simmers who only build houses, or should they also only play the way you approve?
Like, even in a game like Animal Crossing on the Switch. You go online. There will be modders, and dupers, and people who exploited the clock, and people exploited spider island before spiders got nerfed, and people who bought bells for IRL cash, and so on. Even if none of these things existed. Going online and having someone who makes mad bucks every week off turnips give you millions is still going to ruin your progression and the fairness of your online environment. So the experience of progression is ruined whether the person was legit or not from my perspective.
Nothing but facts here!
