Every early access game I've ever played has made it clear that with updates, you can possibly (or probably) lose your save files. Sometimes changes are made that are so large or different, your save file is no longer compatible. The trade off for getting a game cheap and early is that it isn't a finished game.
Too many people expect the world out of early access games.
im not sure how people's save files are magically dissapearing right now. but im sure it only happens to those who are unaware where its being stored in the first place so they dont back it up
C:\Users\%user%\AppData\LocalLow\James Bendon
If a user logs into the computer with a new username somehow maybe they click the game which is installed for all users but it cannot reference their save file on another user profile?
I guess make sure you are logging into the computer as the same person (I'm sure 99% of people are doing this)
If they are logging in as the same person then check that area because there is a save file called Slot0, Slot1 etc.
If somehow they are deleted/missing I would be concerned. I also backup my save once a day and back it up before I do open world in case grifters break my island I can restore it to how it was.
Today my save games are gone (not even present on filesystem). So it does appear to be a bug, rather than an update which rendered them incompatible
Think I'll wait until Cloud saves are implemented. Can't really be bothered to start again from scratch when they might get deleted again
So just to be clear because I'm a old woman and I'm not exactly up to date on this stuff, if I make a backup of the Slot0 file and rename it, then that is my save?
Just copy and paste your save to your desktop or somewhere else you know where and what it is. You only need to rename it if you are keeping your backup copy in the same folder as your in-use save (can’t have two files same name).
So if you need to restore a backup you would just copy and paste your backup file back into your save file location and overwrite what’s there with the backup, and the backup will become the new current save. If you are leaving it in same folder and renaming it, you would just rename it back to whatever the save is you want to replace and delete the old one.
anyway if u have winzip or winrar its very easy to make a backup, i use winrar and once a day i just right click the slot0 folder>add to archive>done
Honestly, most commonly when I see a save bug in a game it's usually due to people using special characters in their name. It somehow interferes with code and sends a delete command or make it unable to read due to how the directory is found in the code. Not saying that is the issue here. But it is by far the most common way I've seen save files get messed with due to a bug.
