How do I get one?
I have checked the bulletin board and Franks Lab everyday for almost 2 years now, but I have not seen it once.
My dogs been stuck in the ocean for 2 years now and I'm hoping some how this will bring him back LOL

I look at wiki but i guess you know this CorgiButts : The "Pet" action is a command system for Doggos. One pet will tell them to Stay, the next to follow. If attempting to keep the Doggo safe, the player can tell the Doggo to stay somewhere out of harms way.

I don`t know if he gonna follow your boat mate if not you may jump out and try to swim or pet him, a dog kennel may make him to spawn back when you wake up.

They require a Dog Kennel for shelter who can be bought from Irvin`s Barn as Seyani Las said.

I don't go in the mines so I'm waiting for a magic dog to drop from the Gatcha machine

If you can handle the enemy on the surface easy then you should not have any issue in the mine mate.

I managed to kill a crocodile once, but it almost got me so I haven't tried since; that was self-defence.

I understand you very well mate so this may help you out :

The case is if you not try mate then you will not learn where i had the same issue as you but i desided to find out the mechanics of the enemy creature and in short time i know how to easy take them out and i am sure you can do the same if you give it a serious try which you should do at least one time.

Here is what to do : Make a animal collection point and place it out nearby some coroco and devil's hound + a bonfire and make sure you have some cooked apple and cactus and make 10 simple animal trap.

Track 4 crocos and 4 devils hound and make them follow you one by one to your animal collector and trap them and send them without fighting them.
Now when you have done that you know how they act and now you damage 1 croco and 1 devil hound down to 50% and then trap them in the simple animal trap and you will see how much easier it is because you know how they move.

Well mate just give it a try and do it when you wake up and if you mess it up or die then you just load back the day and try again and in short time you know how to take them all out and then you can go down in the mine and have fun :)

Hint :

Circle the croco and make him bite after you 3 times and when he get stunned you attack him from the side or from behind and repeat this to he have 50% health left then you trap him in your cage.

Circle a devils hound but do it much close and when he stop up you hit him one time (where in fact you got time to hit him two times before he turn around after you if you do it at the right moment) from the side and move away and he will attack and miss then he stops up and you hit him again, those fire balls is nothing to worry about where he need some few second to aim and make them and if you move in a circle he can`t hit you.

Just make sure your health is at max where you can take 1 cooked apple and cactus before the fight and keep in mind you can load up the day so do it in the morning :)
