They are better. I ran into him so got to check it out. There are 3 new weapons, each one takes 2 drops from alphas, plus other stuff. I found out the alpha drops are different depending on what you kill.
Croc gives alpha scale, use these to make alpha spear
Devil gives alpha eye, use these to make alpha bat
roo gives alpha antlers, use these to make alpha hammer
Note you don't always get a alpha drop from alpha creatures. I killed the roo and got nothing but meat. Only reason I know of the different drops is because I ran into Ted.
Now I want the others to see what they do. No luck on antlers after killing 2 alpha roos, but I got one eye from the alpha devil, so one more to go for that. Had to invest in a repair table, as I didn't have one before, but I am not going to make a new alpha spear every time it dies.
Ya the bat zapper. I love that. Fastest way to deal with bats. Let a few pile up on you, then zap em. Much quicker then hitting them.
Alpha Spear fires three fireballs in an arc with some gravity fall. Pretty decent range. It's nice to be able to get a decent ranged weapon for once. It's fun picking off crocs from a distance. They're like "who's shooting me, wtf?" and then they die.
I'm getting way less alpha quests now though.
Wait you mean the alpha bat? That sounds sweet! It is fun picking them off from a distance XD Ya I am not getting any more alpha quests the the last few days. Sad, I got a bunch in a row, then nada. Guess we will just have to wait it out :( I want more toys! XD
Oh you're right. The bat. It's weird that the bat is a ranged weapon, but I'm digging it.
It may be hard to get two of each at these rates of alpha quests. Guess we'll still be primarily reliant on the battle shovel. I like having multiple, so I can swap them out before repairing a bunch all at once.
I got two bat zappers but then realized I have no need to go into the mines anymore as I have truckloads of iron and I got the batwing glider already. Plus have two cabinets full of collars, saddles, bogeyboards, guitars, and three yellow gliders.
I prefer multiple myself, but that will be tough. I will just repair the one I have so far. What the heck it will repair all the other stuff I usually just replace anyway.
Dang, ya I don't need to go down there either now, but I do for fun from time to time. Did you get any of those new seeds down there? They grow in summer to make mighty spread. This stuff is seriously op. +50 to health and stamina, 60 sec of health regeneration, +20 min. of attack and defense. I got 3 seeds down there. Good thing I was at the end of spring when I got them so I could plant them right away.
I kinda laugh I am harvesting stuff in a jar, but hey why not?!
i fought my portion against alphas in my saves, so i moved with my current last saves to more peaceful endevours, fishing, farming. i hope at least the next update will bring some serious improvements to farming, cause farming is so far an unrewarding grind & cooking is a mindless click fest.
well, maybe i make a hunter save, then i would hunt alphas again, the new spear seemed interesting.
what new seeds are in the deep mine ?
Hmm, I don't think it moves the game more towards fighting, it is just another tool for those that don't mind or like that part of the game. It doesn't take away from anything else, so it is really just the same with different tools.
Ya I only have a small farm field. I still water by hand with a iron watering can. I don't see the point of doing massive farming, it only brings money, which can be got in many ways. I only cook bread to sell and fruit salad for myself. So ya I agree both are under utilized, maybe that will change in the future.
The new seeds are called mighty seeds. They can be found in the treasure rooms. Plant in summer to get mighty spread, which is a buff food, as described in my previous post.
I have only found a single seed packet 3 times so far. So they are not really common, so you are not going to plant them in bunches.
farming doesn't bring money if you compare it eg to fishing. in one evening fishing with only maybe a boat & copper rod you get easily 80T, for that amount of money you have to set up a huge farm with a fence, you have to buy expensive seeds, you have to pay attention to the season change, you have to water daily & then wait for at least a whole week. in my experience with both, farming is not fun while fishing is easy, even without the fish book.
so alot of hurdles with little reward, ok, if i ever run across it will be fine, but i surely won't hunt for them
I meant the new weapons didn't change any of the other game play. Curious though, what other tools would you like for the more peaceful side? Higher quality of what is there or new stuff?
Agreed. In reality there is only so much money you need in the game anyway. So really anyone should do as they please to get it, whatever is the most fun for them. I know some people really love large scale farming, even if going that big isn't for me. It is nice to have options.
Ya pretty much. I wouldn't hunt them down, just plant or save the ones I get. Strange addition really.
i thought of eg a Tin Sprinkler which works with a Well, where a well would supply up to 4 such sprinklers, which maybe need repair, so not as the other infinite sprinkers. but such early sprinklers would make a huge difference to farming.
rather the infinite sprinklers should be nerfed imo.
the last couple of saves i concentrated on one activity. i started with fishing, it was really fun & that said from someone who always hates fishing in games. i am not sure what makes fishing fun in Dinkum, but it is, maybe the freedom, the peace, the space & the variety of fish ? i had also no problem with money & in early stages is money always short.
in the next save i wanted to make a farmer, headed for the tractor. it started pretty fast to be more pain than fun. i realised too late that i had to really meticulously plan the whole endevour, because the seasons are so crucial to farming. i had already by now several times a whole field of a crop wither cause i was busy doing something else & didn't pay attention that it was the second day of a new season. so already one has exactly to know how long a crop needs to grow & plan exactly ahead. Rayne gives additionally a misleading info, which is one day longer than the crops actually need, so additional confusion to an already complicated matter.
my summary of that farmer endevour is - early farming has to get some good improvements & not even new tools but maybe shorten the time crops need to grow, more crops in general, also important - more cooking recipes which use the whole variety of crops. cause atm even if you manage to grow something in a season there is nothing you can do with it until actually next year ! cause the only cooking recipe for that crop needs ingredients from across all seasons & additional high hunting skill of alphas. this is maybe theoretically possible, practically i doubt there are many players who ever make Prime Roast, it takes absolutely forever to do it & along the way, it's not fun but very stressful.
i really hope farming gets some serious love in the next update. atm it's nowhere near the fun one can have with fishing. i would even say, fishing is a bit OP, the Dinks amount one can make with fish is astronomical compared to farming.
i am also not that keen on Deep Mine, but what i know looks like even Deep Mine & mining is better than farming. farming atm is just a total unrewarding chore.
& the sprinklers in game remove the only incentive for the player to care for farming actually.
there is a serious imbalance.
in the beginning you have absolutely no time to do something else if you start farming cause you have to water the plants slowly & daily. but when you get to sprinklers all of sudden that daily care stops totally & you actually forget you have a farm at all. you just look from time to time when you harvest & that's it.
farming is very out of balance in Dinkum.
so regarding tools for farming i wish also for easier access to fertilizer or some other form of shortening the time for a plant to grow &/or for a higher yield.
fertilizer atm in game is as convoluted as everything else about farming. there are too many hoops, too many activities you have to do io to get to anything rewarding with farming. you have to be good at many skills to get ahead with farming, if you don't, then progress in farming will be even slower & even less fun.
what farming also needs is Canning.
additionally, every crop should be possible to just be cooked.
i also would really like if Rayne could play a more caring role to crops. i think she should do some magic, which would make crops grow immediately & bring more yield, at least from time to time, at least to her beloved Corn. maybe an option to ask her for a speedy growth of some crop ... some magic
another idea would be some sort of an earlier small vehicle, not that elaborate as a tractor, but something that makes early farming easier. tilling, fertilizing, planting, watering, harvesting a bit of help in early stages would go a long way.
---
TLDR :
breakable Tin Sprinklers working with the Well
shorter plant growing period
less punishing seasonal change to growth
way more crops
way more cooking recipes
more, better, easier options for fertilizer
canning
all plants cooked
Rayne magic
early small farming vehicle
Interesting ideas. I agree farming is rather tedious, especially at the beginning. I know he raised the xp you get once, but it still doesn't seem like enough. I think early game items could help with that though, so it doesn't seem like such a slog for so little reward. Agree on more crops and recipes, they should have more function also, canning is interesting. I have never made prime roast either XD It doesn't really seem worth it to do the work to plant crops, save them somewhere, and then cook dishes just for the sake of doing it. There are easier things to make for what you need.
Fertilizer is a pain. Another reason to keep a small garden :P I don't know how he would feel about adding magic, maybe a special item like "miracle grow" that Rayne can give to you at times for a request reward, or mailed in one of her letters she mails at times. That way it would still be random, and you couldn't buy your way to faster/more crops.
About the recipes that take a bunch of crops from different seasons, maybe a greenhouse you can grow any season crop in. Rayne can have a drop down menu like the other shops for out of season seeds, maybe they could cost a little more, and still have in season seeds in the display.
