my silo set up :)
i wanted to share my silo set up since I've seen others looking for ideas, I wanted it in the middle but also didn't want to take up too much space, my animal pen area isn't that big as some others I've seen, so this worked out very well for me :D

If you add a sprinkler, the vombats will have a more reliable source of grass to eat and you'll spend less on animal feed.

Also, no water feature for the pleeps? They love water!

Here's my animal section

ooooo! I was actually thinking of making a small pond, wasn't sure where to fit it hahaha

how deep did you have to dig to get the water? I've seen sharks spawn in tiny ponds on my island, want to make sure that doesn't happen in my animal pen XD

You have to connect to an existing water source to fill water. So dig out your pit first and then connect via a channel then fill that channel back in.

Wildlife spawns in three deep, so as long as you keep it shallower than that, you're fine. Mine is all 1 deep for ease of picking up poop. Which is then put into compost bins right next to the animal farm.

I've seen this mentioned before and I have tested it in my game and do not believe it to be true as I've never seen any animals eat the grass in game.

I've seen my vombats eat and leave grass seed and empty grass spots behind. It's a daily occurrence in my game that I pick up between 1 and 4 grass seed. Where are your feeders located? The vombats may be going for the animal feeder first. My grass is right in front of their animal shelters.

my vombats eat the grass all the time XD an additional way of getting some grass seeds hehe

but I think they may pick their food based on whatever's closest

I believe this is true too. Vombats will eat whatever is closer. I moved my sprinkler so that it creates grass right in front of their stalls. I then moved my pleep animal dens right in front of the feeders so they go for that first rather than the water feature. Seems to be working as now all my pleeps have wool in the morning where before the redesign only half of them did. These things are addicted to my water feature and spend all day in it rather than eating and thus no wool for me. Gotta get them right as they leave the den or they won't eat all day. Will post a photo later.

Here's my current farm setup in a way so that the vombats eat grass first and the pleeps actually eat rather than spending the whole day in the water feature.

oooo cool, is that the water tank under the water? didn't know you could do that, it's wicked :D

Yep. Still powers the sprinklers too despite being underwater. The animals don't go over it though. You can stand in Z camera mode, but you swim on overhead. So a bit funky. It's technically 5 deep, but nothing has spawned in there despite over a week of in game time.

I like this current design better. The vombats wake up and eat grass and the animal feeders being so close to the pleep shelters ensure they actually eat rather than directly head to the water and spend the day frolicking and not eating. All my pleeps are now producing wool daily where they were maybe 50-75% before the redesign.
