You just need to eat a cooked cactus fruit after a few catches and can do this as long as you want.
you played for 6 hours, sorry to say that, but you don't know nothing
the fishing rod is double upgradeable, which makes reeling easier, as with many other tools in this game
there are food recipies which make fishing a walk in the park
in the museum after you caught 45 unique species you get a fish book, which helps a lot with rare fish
if you know how to fish, at John's a Barracuda sells at 16,000 Dinks, a Marlin at 20,200, a Yellowfin Tuna at 24,600, you get even more if sold to Ted Selly
Jelly Brew and Fish & Chips give fishing buffs and make reeling in easier and faster. They dont' fight as long either. Plus - you get extra XP when fishing.
Yellowfin sells for $24,000.
Good luck trying to get that many logs and butterflies.
Yeah, fishing book makes all the difference. I only fished for the museum and daily quests before I got it, but afterwards it's a huge money maker.
Basically, it just takes too long compared to other activities. Also, I know that there are valuable fish to be caught, but I built my home in the middle of the map and running out to fish in the ocean just isn't worth the effort.
I didn't even know about the more valuable fish until I watched Let's Game It Out's Youtube video where he caught a ton of tuna
I spend most of my time mining, capturing animals, farming and catching bugs. Just because they are all pretty much around the same area and on the way as I do other things.
In my 2nd run I have more knowledge and started fishing asap, I paid all town debt immediately and had tier 3 fishing and 1 mill in the bank before summer ended. All while doing all the other stuff.
Granted now that I'm approaching the end of year one I don't fish much at all anymore, town is built-up I'm at the stage of saving all my farming, cooking, and crafting stuff for rainy day sales to Jimmy. 10 million in the bank means I don't need to fish for money anymore.
Fishing may not be worthwhile to you but once you know the game and where to fish it's kinda over powered.
As someone mentioned above, the iron fishing rod makes it much faster and easier. It also allows you the ability to catch sharks and kill them (on land). I love fishing in this game but it was a little frustrating at the start.
