Dedicated Server?
It would be absolutely amazing if you could make a dedicated server for this!

I just saw this game and my niece and my friend liked the look of it. I was going to pick it up for us, but then saw there is no private/dedicated server that you can host on your own server hardware. That made me put a pause on buying the game (for now). Having to be online every time one or more players want to play on the world, just takes the fun away for me. Hopefully they may visit the idea of dedicated servers down the road.

Unfortunately dedicated servers are currently impossible! Hopefully that will change after release, but for now, yes, the Host of the Island must be online for others to join and play.

How would that even work in a game where you have to sleep at night?

You mean IRL sleep? If no player is online time progression could just stop.

No, I mean the in game day/night cycle is periodically accelerated by characters attempting to sleep.

There is one other game (can't remember the title) where the same thing applies. In that game if all players go to bed, the night time accelerates to morning. Oh its Minecraft. LOL I just remembered. Anyhow, that is how Minecraft does it. In games with 3 or 4 people on a server its not too bad, but if you have 16+ then yea it could be tricky or the game mechanics would need to be altered somehow which I doubt will happen.

Just that in mc. You dont have to sleep. In Dinkum.. you pass out and lose dura on your tools if you don't sleep. It's also the only way to save in this game.

There is no building like in mc. You can design one town. Grind everything the game provides.. get through progression. Thats it. Dedicated servers don't make any sense for this kind of game.

Exactly and this is a single dev and servers are expensive to do large scale but it just doesn't make sense to do even if it was a big company that easily could. Having visitors is more for showing off what you've done than any real coop.

Yes, and that is not what the OP is talking about. They are talking about a "headless" server option where you use you own private hardware (Linux Computer) to host a server you and your friends can connect to when they want and it is not dependent upon a specific person being online.

Hi there I'm new to the game and still would like to know if this would ever be an option as well. It is fun playing with friends, but I feel guilty being the island owner and if I'm out of town or something my friends cant play :(
