Where are the single player focused Conan video games?
What's wrong with Funcom?

probably already dead....

They're all in the past. Funcom knows neither they nor any team likely to pay them licensing fees is going to be competent enough to make a single player RPG that can stand up against the Elder Scrolls or the Witcher, so they've resolved to either making broken games pitched to an undiscerning audience (Age of Conan, Conan Exiles) or providing rather lax marketing support to small teams that want to do asinine Conan projects for name recognition's sake (Conan Unconquered, Conan Chop Chop).

Funcom doesn't want to give up the Conan rights - probably because they're worth something and they're waiting for the right bid, sort of like the one Tencent made to save their asses last year. Tencent pretty much only comprehends online games marketed as a service so you can rest assured that there will be no decent single player Conan game for years now.

if the netflix Conan show is good, maybe it will generate some hype for a solo game... or not... we'll see >.<

Ho ho, no, the show will be a train wreck even if it materializes (Amazon wasn't able or willing). Even if it gets anywhere it will almost certainly be headed up by a Twitter politician whose main objectives will be to inject "chaotic humor" and figuring out how to not make the character a blatant racist.

This is the most wasted IP in gaming right now. Even though I do liked Exiles, is not enough, plain and simple... Robert E. Howard bread and butter was storytelling and character-focused adventures. The world is there, but the narrative is completely missing. Funcom is a let down as the owners of Conan's license.

kind of agree
the waste on multiplayer "experiences" is just boring in the last 20 years there have 3 solo titles a mobile game, an action adventure which was pretty good and a by the numbers but fun action title

What I wonder is if they are doing it on purpose or if they lack the resources to make a Witcher-like Conan game.
ULTRA Jun 25, 2021 @ 9:35am
Yes, they lack the resources. CDPR barely pulled off Witcher 3 and they were at least halfway competent.

The Conan Franchise has kinda the same Problem like Lovecraftian Games.
I liked Exiles a bit, also Aoc.But im also still hoping for a Singleplayer Game (A serious one)
I hope it changes at some Point.

Look up for Savage - Shard of Gosen. Its my Personal Conan like Game im waiting for,and atm in Early Access. The Dev knows and loves what he works with.

The one thing i think Funcom is good for is that they Keep Conan in the Minds of Gamers.

Wow! thanks for the recommendation, I will check it out. Yeah Funcom is doing nice MMO games... but overall I say they don't deserve to hold the license anymore. A single player game was a no brainer after the support and economic success of Exiles... it was the natural use of the franchise. Yet here we are years later and now they are after the DUNE money. So Conan is a after thought to them now. Maybe when the Netflix show hits will get something other than an overpriced DLC for Exiles whit some armors and construction pieces. Time will tell.

Ya I don't get it. All they have to do was what Mad Max did, make an Arkham like game.

Instead we get an RTS and whatever this is.

I would go full Witcher 3, with a more RPG approach than Mex Mad, but at this point, even a linear story would do. Shame on Funcom for neglecting the very core of Robert E. Howard's work: The storytelling and the main character.

The note to press mentions "what Fortnite has done with The Avengers" as potential inspiration for how to take all this IP forward. Perhaps we'll see a live in-game concert headlined by Conan at some point.

At this point I am all but certain Funcom is doing this only to spite me based off the ownage I gave them on the various Steam forums regarding their dumbass Conan games
