Question about Feeling Old level

So I'm at the Feeling Old level, and really tried to think my way around that 'gun behind the window puzzle', and after really trying, is it an on purpose joke puzzle in which we're supposed to ask Dan about the store password and use it? I don't know anymore, and with the game itself showing those popups I started suspecting the puzzle itself is that 4th wall breaking.

Yeah, the only way to get a gun is to buy it from the Size Five Store. It's a parody of the idea that companies deliberately make games barely playable to lure players to spend real money on microtransactions to make things easier, increasing the game's revenue, except in this case, the game is completely impossible to finish without using the store.

And the store is "broken", so you need to poke around it for a way to get the gun

A little hint on the password issue: insistently ask Dan about it until a certain game is opened. Or check the steam forums too ;)

Yeah, took me a couple of times asking Dan before I realized that the password is derived from another size 5 game 😉
