That all depends on where you choose to start.
Obviously, you cannot expect to find much if you choose to start in a poor part of the world such as tundra, steppes or desert.
You choose to start in those biomes because you want to raise the difficulty of the game.
I say difficulty because playing without 'everything' including no medicinal plants at all is not impossible... just difficult ;)
If you want an easier game, then choose to play where vegetation is lush... temperate and/or tropical areas with lots of rich soil... that will increase your success at finding everything you might need. Even so, while you will find all of the medicinal plants, remember that you may not have access to all of the different trees and plants. Clearly, bananas and oranges (tropical) aren't usually found with apples and peach, for example ;)
Still, if you really are intent on finding most, if not all of the various trees/plants, then your best bet would be to find a border zone between tropical and temperate.
Chalk it up to experience ;)
Try out different biomes and start locations so that you learn what grows where and what doesn't ;)
I would like to see more detail on the map when choosing a tribe.
I find it annoying that sapiens abandon tasks to go pick up stuff. If I give them a task, one would assume its more important than hauling items back to camp.
If you want a Sap to focus on research and not go haul, then disable their General Labour role ;)
Also, I hope that piece of Flint is something your Saps dug up while excavating and wasn't just lying on the surface... Never collect surface lying minerals. They are your clues to what is buried below. Leave them there as a marker so that you'll know where to dig for more!
