You craft small rocks from large rocks. Unfortunately you need a small rock to craft a small rock, so if you ever run out, you need to look in the world for more. Your sapiens will automatically gather the small rocks required for crafting within a certain range, but after that you have to do it manually. It's a crucial resource that you need to check often to make sure you don't run out of it.

This is what i do too...

Every once in a while i will search the surrounding area for Alpaca or Mammoth Corpses, Small Rocks and Flint. Mammoth is easy to see obviously, Alpaca can sometimes get caught in ground clutter. Small Rocks and Flint have to zoom in a bit like person above mentioned.

Also as soon as you see a small rock or flint, left click it and hit the button in the middle that lets you do a circle/box select out to 50 meters. Use this screen as a sort RADAR screen to let you know if there are any other small rocks flint nearby that you haven't seen yet. If you see any other blips out there then widen your pickup range so you can pick those other ones up too.

You can get buggered big time without small rocks...I didn't pay attention and ran out and now have tons of large rocks as I picked up every rock in sight and dug the ground hoping for a pebble. Now my crops rot, 4 mammoths left to rot, can't process bread, and am out of tools. Basically the tribe of 40 has to survive on fruit I planted when I had the luxury of a small rock. Can the devs please teach the ignorant sapiens to smash together large rocks to make small rocks.

Yesterday I was out checking out the territory far from camp and saw one of my guys running around out in the middle of nowhere. I clicked on him and it said he was retrieving a small rock for a tool order I had made. WTF??! So now I have to make sure I keep my big rocks pared down to small rocks on a regular basis, because these troglodyte dumbasses don't know better than to run all over creation instead of just busting up a big rock themselves.

they cant "bust up" a big rock without using a small rock.

I guess i'm lucky to not have had this small rock problem yet.

Are you guys just selecting "craft continously" when it comes to tools? I only make tools either as i need them or i'll make them in groups of 10 or 20 and then stop. Everything else though i'll make until i run out of raw materials usually.

I do have my tools set to craft continuously, but I do not run out of small rocks because I limit what my head parts can be made of. My knife crafter is set to only make knives from bones. My hatchet crafter is set to only make Limestone Stone Axe Head (so it only uses limestone small rocks). My Pickaxe crafter and Spear crafter only makes pickaxe heads and spear heads from Flint. This all limits the amount of tools that get constantly produced while ensuring I never run out of Plain Small Rocks and Plain Large Rocks. I also have a crafter that continuously makes Limestone Small Rocks.

My quarry area produces Plain Large Rocks and Limestone Large Rocks. The Limestone ones get automatically broken down into small ones, but the plain rock is retained in large form to be used for crafting paths and quern-stones.

Similarly, I have setup continuous crafting of Pine Split Logs, but retain other log variants in log form so I have a consistent selection of plank types and log types to build structures with. Setting up continuous crafting with limited ingredient recipes is really helpful in reducing the amount of micro-managing you need to do to keep a variety of building materials and tools/weapons in stock without jut completely running out of everything.

There are two different ways. 1) They can be found on the ground if you look for them. 2) You can craft them in a crafting area.

Recommend allowing you to make a stone hammer to make more little rocks.

They can already be crafted. Dont need a hammer. Just saying :)

We have knapping tools already

The only problem with crafting them is that if you have run out of small rocks you need a small rock to make more. That said you get a chance to find more by digging if you can't find any lying around.
