Note that Langrisser 2 is likely to have more units and classes, so the tutorial would probably talk about those if you were playing that game. Didn't see Lizard Men and such being talked about in the Langrisser 1 tutorial.
Scale leans into your direction, your class of soldiers gets a bonus against theirs, for example spear men against cavalry.
A balanced scale means neither troop type has a advantage, scale into their direction means their troops have a natural bonus against yours.
