Langrisser I & II

Langrisser I & II

Art Looks Nearly Identical to the Mobile Version
Is this simply a port of the Langrisser I & II campaigns available in the mobile version of the game, minus the gacha element?

No. This is a remake of the original Langrisser 1+2 for Mega Drive/Super Nes.

Each contains about 60 scenarios with different story paths you can follow ( Light, Empire, Chaos, Independant) and so on.

The mobile version only had super simplified maps of most of these scenarios.
This remake also uses the correct battle system with your characters having up to 8 separate soldier squads to control on the map.
So the scale of the battles is much bigger. You also need a lot longer for a single scenario then in the simple mobile version.

Here is a video of the first stage in Langrisser 1.

So it's basically the mobile game, but using story/combat mechanics from the first two games? It looks exactly like a mobile game to me.

Its still not the mobile game. Its a remake of the original Langrisser 1+2 with new additional scenarios added.
The mobile game is a typical gacha game that just uses characters from all the Langrisser games but plays totally different.
While i agree that the graphics of this remake are rather cheap and mobile like, the gameplay is anything but and FAR superior to the mobile version.

No it's nothing like the mobile game and if you watched that video and still thought it looked like the mobile game you are obviously trolling.

He isn't wrong though, the stages are smaller than the original. I don't like the new maps as well as the mobile graphics. I played the demo and i'd rather have 1991 graphics than 2020. The game-play is only slightly different than genesis and it is still fun, but man o man an option to use different character models would be nice.

Yeah, the new soldier sprites are still the thing that bothers me the most.
They just look like cheap paper doll cutouts with smiley Lego faces.
Brrrr.
I will just turn off the battle animations i think, did that most of the time in the old games too and the battles look more boring here anyway.

Both use cheap mobile assets and have that cheap animation for running and attacks, the maps also look like cheap vector art.

This is the same as if Fire Emblem remade Thracia 776 but using FEH assets, people would be sending death threats to Nintendo non-stop.

Now see the difference:

FEH (mobile game): https://www.pngitem.com/pimgs/m/246-2463772_here-s-some-bonus-lucina-sprites-that-i.png
FE 3 Houses (console): https://nintendoeverything.com/wp-content/uploads/fire-emblem-three-houses-edelgard-lord.jpg

Look at this again:

So basically it's the graphics...

seriously mate, it's not like the original graphics are beautiful (especially of 1) and their goal is to reach a new audience, an audience that has never played Genesis or SNES.

Are the sprites well done? eh...
Are the new Artworks well done? eh as well, i would actually prefer the Mobile Artworks here.

but if that is the reason you play langrisser, you are doing it wrong.

This game, while I think it should be on the same level as Fire emblem, commercial it simply is not and comparisions on their production value are kinda misplaced.

The gameplay is vastly different to the Mobile game, I can attest to that, i've played both and their looks have no influence on this.

Yes it's the graphics, but graphics aren't a minor consideration in a game, it's what you'll be looking at for the whole 50-100 hours you'll be playing it, if it looks bad and cheap, then it won't feel as good as it should. And for a game to cost 50 dollars to look like that, it's pretty pathetic to be honest.

Whereas look at this other remake that will be coming this year:

I do not care about the graphics, as long as they retain the original and classic gameplay of 90's console TBS games, without modernizing additions we saw in Fire Emblem on Nintendo Switch.

I started gaming on an ATARI ST, believe me graphics are a minor complaint to me. A lot of great games look very bad, since, you know, they are old or made without any budget or both.

That said, the trailer you linked looks really bad both on a technical and a stylistic level i do prefer the "mobile" style art direction of Langrisser. It's looks very generic, yes, but it is not bad at all.

Both aren't Final Fantasy VII remakes though so from that perspective both games look really bad.

I completely disagree with you, Brigandine has an excellent art direction, I just can't see how you could compare this mobile game asset flip game to it and say it looks worse lol, unless you're being a contrarian.

And games don't need to be 3d, have perfect photorealistic graphics to look good, but they have to at least look presentable, have some charm. This game looks cheap, like they had a really tight budget and thought "well, if we're going to fail let's not spend too much money on this". And for a game that looks this cheap to ask for 50 dollars I mean.

There are a lot of good RPG maker games that look better than this and may even be better mechanically, but they aren't asking for that much money.

let's just agree to disagree on this then. I just want to point out that I am truly not "contrarian", it's just that 2D sprites are, in my opinion, a lot easier to make in a pleasant looking way whíle 3D art always looks off lacking if it is "cheaply" produced.

It may just me being an old fart, i don't know but thats how i feel.

i just thought the art looked like it came out of RPG Maker, compared to the original game which i played as Warsong on the genesis, i kind of liked Warsongs art better, but i understand that was like 16 bit pixel art, it doesn't really hold up to the art of today, but was there no artbook collections of the original artist works they could have scanned or got someone to recreate?
