It's also extremely dependend on the FPS your run your game at. For very fast streams of notes you pretty much need at least a low triple digit framerate in order to play them with any consistency.
People used to complain *a lot* about songs with fast, short notes when the game was first released - however, we've added a ton of features and improvements since launch that make them a lot easier to play, so we can lean into more notes vs more slides for future songs!
I do want to briefly mention something a bit off topic but sort of adjacent to this:
Combinations of straight notes connected by slides inbetween, something one may want to use to represent a melody played with Legato or Portamento expressions kind of mess with the scoring/combo systems. Since the slides count as separate notes they essentially double the note count (minus one).
It also makes playing it more strict. When the straight notes are disconnected like normal you only have to hit the notes themselves but when they are connected by slides you also have to accurately hit the transition inbetween the notes.
Standard practice is to just use slides with no straights but as I'm improving at the game I'm slowly starting to find the slide shape a bit unintuitive. I increasingly catch myself trying to play each note cleanly rather than following the slide shape.
There is no way to chart multiple straight notes to be played in one toot without drastically affecting scoring.
That might be a future avenue to look into when further polishing the game's core systems.
I sort of planned to make a more detailed post about it some time ago but it I felt like it got too bloated up with details so I set it aside.
As someone whos run this game at around 40 FPS for a year, causal player wouldnt mind if they get 95% acc instead of 98%
Frames do not matter unless you are grinding ranks for the TootTally mod.
The chart you showed can be found here: https://toottally.com/song/5313/
Its actually rated 6.5* and we have MUCH harder charts than that.
I hope to see you around in the leaderboards :D
