But now that the game is popular and we actually have the budget to potentially pursue content beyond "old / in the public domain," we'll be consulting with knowledgeable people about addressing this issue.
Really amazing to hear from the dev that this is something they're aware of and working to expand, great job! Looking forward to further projects and updates, rock on.
I'm really hoping it works out. A lot of great stuff could definitely be added
I don't think is an "issue". This is the *only* person on this forum that said something silly like this. Everyone else is praising you for making a funny, over the top, tongue in cheek game. You don't have to appeal to the 0.01% minority.
I think what might save you some time and improve this game's longevity is to add proper workshop support. There's already a thriving modding community out here - OP's "diversity led" music can be added by herself. You guys sticking to public domain/historical stuff and then flipping that upside down makes for hilarious and entertaining absurdist entertainment. It made you folks think outside the box to turn what looks like boring pieces entertaining to play and watch. Well done.
Also if you want to address a more significant minority that I think needs some attention, I think adding accessibility features like color blind/color adjustment modes and other things to reduce flashing lights and excessive motion for those who get motion sick would be a good idea. I saw a few reviews saying they had to refund the game or stop playing because of it, which is a bummer since this game is so fun.
It would have been very easy for the entire song list to be marching band stuff. But isn't it great that there's other songs?
It's really hard to find songs that are public domain though. I was thinking about Cielito Lindo, which I think is iconic and on the easier side. The song was published in 1882, how could it not be public domain? Except the composer lived until 1957, and in many countries the rule is life-plus-70 years, so 2027.
It's unfortunate, but there's a real possibility that there exist no notable public-domain songs featuring trombones performed or composed by women. If someone finds one, I think it'd be on the fast-track to getting in the game. And that probably also applies to all sorts of diverse music. Maybe there's a regionally well-known folk song in Madagascar that's played on an instrument that's played on a trombone-like instrument, if this song exists and someone's aware of it, don't keep it a secret!
