Control / Timing Issues
I'm absolutely loving the game! I found 2 major problems with higher level play. There's about a ~200 millisecond gap between a key press and the note playing. This makes faster notes, like in Beethoven's Fifth for example, unnecessarily difficult. On top of that is the flat score calculation per note without accounting for its length. This makes it so very long notes are overly lenient and the shortest notes are, especially in quick succession, combined with the ~200 millisecond gap, excessively difficult. Under these circumstances, perfect play requires you to filter out the trombone noise because its noise is delayed too much to be a proper indicator of accurate timing on bursts of fast notes, but you also want its noise as an indicator of accurate pitch. I managed S ranks on every song, but it feels wrong on faster songs. If it's possible for the trombone noise delay to be fixed and the note score calculations to take length into account, 10/10 game! :)

EDIT: The most recent update improved the short note score calculation!

Bonus EDIT: Have since managed an S rank on the champ mix with mouse only. Everything is doable, but it's hard on your finger(s)!

I agree, when you get short notes in quick succession it seems pretty much impossible to keep your multiplier going because of the way you're expected to hold the previous note until the very end, meaning on some tracks there's barely enough time between the end of the previous note and the start of the next to perform another keypress, & when you add to that the delay in the sound of the trombone...
What's even stranger is that if you play so that the song sounds right you could miss every single one of the small notes, but if play properly according to the score the whole sound is delayed.
They could improve it by letting you keep your multiplier even if you hold through multiple notes with one key press, and it'd be up to you to manage your breathing. It's weird that it kills your multiplier in the first place since it doesn't affect the rating on the notes

I agree. I can get the delay matched using the timing tool between my keypress and the screen, but then the actual trombone sound is still too delayed. A faster attack on the trombone sound would help.

this needs to be a priority

same issue here - the latency config seems to help the button presses be in time, but then makes the sound delayed.

Agreed, playing in sync with the music desyncs with button presses, which is an issue a good rhythm game really should have sorted out.

Same here, that's frustrating. The timing is perfectly in sync between the music and the gameplay but the trombone sound is way too delayed and that makes the game unplayable.

Just played every song and agree with everyone here so far. Even with whatever fix may have rolled out, and setting sync in the menu, there is a serious problem with timing. The attack time between a button press and sound is way too far apart to make musical sense, so if you're just trying to play the song it's all off.

I really thought it was just me, but you've all explained the same troubles. It's essential they fix it somehow, it's the only thing holding the game back at the moment.

This especially

I would think that short notes should be judged completely differently (timing and accuracy on a single instant) rather than the formula used for longer notes, which cares about your accuracy over the duration.

Individual circles vs silders in osu! for example.

Yeah... agree with this. Accuracy on short notes is truly painful compared to long notes, constantly breaking combo and Champ meter. I have 15+ S ranks, but just can't get up to 20 due to this issue on harder songs. I'm sure part of that is skill on my part, but not all of it. More often than not, it doesn't feel fair. It feels arbitrary.

My other suggestion would be for Okay hits to not break combo; maybe they don't increment combo, but also don't break it. Another aspect that feels very punishing.

Or some reworking of the % needed for each of the ranks... maybe it's that Nice+ is too tight? Expand them all a bit, make it harder to earn Meh and Nasty via lower%.

+1 - mouse timing seems to be instant, but keyboard keypresses have a noticeable delay
