Base Stations Both not entering sleep mode
so i used steam VR to change it to power saving and only one of them will turn blue and enter sleep mode while the other remains green and stays on.

is there something i'm doing wrong?
do i need to redownload the update? it tells me there is no updates or issues?

Mine dose this if I remove the Index from the PC before closing Steam/Shutting down. (Family living room, can't risk leaving it plugged in as it might get damaged..)

I've complained many times the Base Station needs to be updated so they go in to sleep mode on their own after no communication for 10 minutes or more.

If you open a support ticket you'll get a copy and paste message with a power management FAQ link.

You either have to keep the Index connected or buy some Remote power sockets to turn off the Base Stations manually via remote. Steam highly recommends not doing this for some reason but you end up flicking the power off anyway.

My Base Station have a whine but I think it's normal for them to make a little whining sound. When you are sitting in the room with them and you hear them, you can not unhear them..

Anyway, if your Index is connected and it's not going in to sleep mode then you need to enter the Steam VR setting and turn on power management. Also, "Stand By" and "Sleep" are two different settings. Stand By will keep the motor spinning for quick start up and Sleep will power down and take a little time to wake up.

well turns out it's an issue with the most recent windows update.

(it ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up a lot of bluetooth features)

so either roll back to the previous windows update or wait for a fix. :praisesun:
if you had been having issues before the previous update sounds like another issue on your end.

and the little whine or whatever is supposed to happen its the discs inside them spinning.

Yup, known issue due to Windows 2004 update. The funny thing is, sometimes it works!!!!
I just unplug them for now and when you plug them back, you have to refresh the one that did not turn back on.

If your PC has bluetooth, you can use Lighthouse V2 Manager to assist with powering up/down your base stations. Here is a link to the executable you can download to do this:

https://github.com/nouser2013/lighthouse-v2-manager/releases

Just create two command files, one to wake up the base stations and one to put them to sleep, and then place shortcuts to those on your desktop. Sometimes it still takes launching this executable more than once for all four of my base stations to respond, but it is much more reliable than having to constantly open and close Steam VR, and a lot quicker too.

Before being pointed to this solution, I was extremely frustrated with how unreliable waking and putting to sleep the base stations were. This work around has largely resolved that problem.

Thank you VirtualMirage, I found the idiot proof version on the app store while looking up how to install the Python stuff. :P

Thanks for the reply. This was basically the only thing that made me fear an upgrade to Windows 10 - 2004 (Can finally try that sweet sweet WSL2)

it took them 3 months but they fixed it.

I know the issue is already resolved but I'm going to rant a tiny bit lol they had people spending $1k USD on a product they had known was defective for that amount of time provided you use the most recent version of windows.

Which lots of people just have auto update right?

People found work arounds by messing with the code of the base stations and some guy even made an app for it on your phone so you could connect it to your phones bluetooth and manually turn on and off your base stations rests mode through the app.

Just use the steam vr beta and you'll be fine. It was such an annoyance to deal with but glad to say it once again that the issues been fixed.

I have this problem again since a couple of weeks. I turn power off via Steam VR, unplug the headset. And when i go to sleep, I recognize a green light instead of blue.

why is this

it was a problem that was supposed to be fixed.

it previously was caused by a windows update that didn't have them react properly.

if you're still having the issue idk cuz i thought it was fixed back in october of 2020

You mentioned unplugging the headset; don't do that. SteamVR needs your headset plugged in order to communicate with the base stations.

ok, but does it has to be plugged in all the time? for days/weeks/months? I usually wait a few minutes after shutting down steam vr, before i unplug it. I like to store it in the original box due to dust and ♥♥♥♥. I didn't know, that it's meant to be plugged in all the time
