Valve Index Controllers

Valve Index Controllers

Left controller rapid battery drain.
Have had my index controllers for a while but haven't played with them for more than 4 or five occassions, the last of which I noticed when playing and going to the steam menu that the left controller had 2 battery dots left, while the right one was still on 4 (I always charge both after a session, so they were fully charged when starting)

Then, like 10 minutes later, the controller was dead.
I left it to charge over the night and test played it today and sure enough, within like 5-10 minutes, it went from 4 dots to just 2.

I noticed there was a update pending for both controllers, that I didn't download right now because I couldn't find the charge cable. But that couldn't be a reason could it? I played Boneworks for about an hour before this issue started, it was in the middle of it that the battery suddenly started to drain real fast. Besides, the other controller is on the same software version so shouldn't it have an issue too if that was the case?

Wondering if someone has had a similar issue? Since the batteries are built-in i worry I'm gonna have to replace the controller, its within warranty so that shouldn't be an issue but I'd hate losing it for the time taking to send it in, get a response and getting a new one (if it is actually defective).

I would definitely talk to support about initializing a RMA to get it replaced, sounds like a bad battery or charging circuit, something like that.

My left controller is also having battery issues. Have you contacted Valve yet to see what your options are for the controller?

I have contacted them about it, but per-usual Valve ways of doing it, they've been quiet and haven't said jack.
I should mention that I did update the controllers with the pending update that I mentioned and after that the battery drain was gone.
It still don't feel like the controller being on an older software version should cause it to eat battery like that though, but if you have that issue. I'd say update the controller if it has any pending updates. Should remove the issue if just temporarily.

I've checked for updates already and have gotten them charged. I'll keep an eye on the battery to see if it's done any good.

Thanks.

have you had problems? Were you able to fix it with the update? Right now I have that same problem, especially with the left control

I did update them and after that the battery drain has remained the same between my controllers. as far as I've been able to tell.
Back when I had the issue I had my controller be down to 1 bar when the other one was at 3 so that was really bad. Now whenever I go in the menu to check they're at the same bars.

My left one still goes down faster than the right.
