Right controller analog stick issue (brand new out of the box)
Anyone else is having issues with their brand new Index controllers?

I just received the Valve Index kit and haven't even unpacked it or set it up on my PC. After opening the box and trying out the controllers, I noticed that the upper semi-circle of the analog stick on the right controller is very rough and sticky. Very hard to move the stick around because of the resulting friction. It's most noticeable when I push the stick forward and move it around in that region.

What's the RMA process like? Really don't want to send the controller first and wait 3 months for a replacement. Might as well just send the whole kit back and wait for HP Reverb G2...

I recently got mine and while playing Half-Life: Alyx I noticed the right thumbstick getting stuck. I would try to move with the left and could not, then find the right stick was stuck. I'm going to submit a ticket to request a replacement.

i got my index controllers exactly one year ago and noticed they've started doing this exact same thing. don't know when it actually started since i haven't used them for a while. the stick can get firmly stuck in the forward position on only the right controller, which makes left-handed tracking in Alyx impossible as you can't move forward (since the trigger to moving forward is the *release* of a stick pushed forward.)

i'm not going to try to fix this myself until i find out it's the only option.

editing this like 10 min after posting: after looking at a teardown video online i learned the circular plate that surrounds the stick, trackpad, and buttons is simply glued down with adhesive. this means perhaps the stick can be "freed" from its stuck position by messing with this faceplate. i pushed on the stick hard as ♥♥♥♥ and then tested it. it stopped sticking, but only for a few minutes.

then i started pushing on the faceplate in various zones and noticed that if i'm pressing on the actual plate surrounding the stick, it won't ever get stuck. have to push fairly hard. that's when i also noticed the plate has bulged out like 0.75mm. the other controller doesn't look like this. it's flush with the rest of the controller. pushing on this releases the stick.

0:30s onwards is most interesting

going to assume any fix for this is going to be a petty "at your own risk" type of deal, all over a little bit of glue. had the same problem with Vive controllers so i'm pretty disappointed about this.
