Some top players use taps and beats on the keyboard on like W/Space but that's about it. Trying to cram every possible input on one hand is so counter-intuitive. If you want to stick to both inputs on same hand, try W/Space or S/Space and work on hitting spins with mouse flicks properly. There's practice mode, there's the editor where you can make practice charts, anything.
Also no, base game does not require double tapping, unless you can't hit even the slowest of tap streams like Rattlesnake/Highscore on XD.
Oh... good to know! I guess I just have to get gud with the flicks, maybe I was doing too large movements and that was messing me up between spins.
Maybe it was the sensitivity? I use 800 dpi with 1.0 ingame wheel sens. Maybe it's a good idea to increase that some?
This really is the most complicated rhythm game I played in terms of gameplay, I need to find my perfect scheme early so that's why I'm trying out this stuff and seeing what sticks.
That's the exact same settings I used to play at on mouse. It's just a matter of developing muscle memory and feeling how much movement you need to input to never miss a spin.
Struggling a lot with doing beat + tap on expert charts. I can move tap to the mouse as the default scheme to make that easier to grasp, but from playing a few songs that way I noticed my accuracy absolutely fell off a cliff, probably because I have never ever played a rhythm game on a mouse. I just cannot for the life of me accurately time mouse button presses, so... taps are gonna have to stay on the keyboard, no way around it, it's not worth it to throw away all my previous rhythm game muscle memory here and wreck my acc. I'm actually doing pretty good acc-wise, I'm S ranking every single Hard chart I play first try, even with a few misses. Moving tap to mouse ruins that immediately.
Now I just have to play more and work on reading the charts well. Going to finish up all the Hard charts and then start grinding Expert.
Final control scheme I think is:
Tap: W, E
Beat: Space
Mouse for spins

Upped my wheel sensitivity to 1.4 and it's been helping with the quick flicks. I found myself undershooting a lot on the harder charts, need to get used to that now.
I'm kinda considering moving beats to a normal key instead of the spacebar but I'll resist doing that and killing my muscle memory.
Just forget you ever read any of this please. Literally just use the default control scheme and don't be like me.
FINAL control scheme: default, but with beat on W instead of space. Sigh.
Explanation: as I get into XD 25+ charts as well as customs, they separate beat and taps to an extent that they basically have to live in their own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dimension, they get COMPLETELY separated, you're hitting taps and beats at different rhythms at the same time often. This makes it very hard to read and execute complex patterns in a single hand.
Yes, it's more comfortable to hit a keyboard switch instead of a mouse button, and yes my acc has gone down to ♥♥♥♥ on mouse just like I said, but I can at least now PASS these XD charts. They are playable now, acc be damned.
Thanks for the help Edge! Turns out I'm a dumbass.
