The lack of succes does mean this probably is my first and last game (at least for the forseeable future). Gotta pay the bills etc.
There's still one major update coming out tomorrow and that'll be the last thing I'll do for this game (except for minor bug fixes that may pop up).
well, does it cost anything to have your game on store? success could still come at a later time, im sure many people could really enjoy this game, you know what, i don't have many friends or anything but i will try to post the link to game on discord servers, maybe some people will be interested
i suppose you do this on your free time, i really like what you created, you can't just stop ^^ but after all it's really up to you, it's nice to do what you like but at some point it's good to get something back too (in this case a bit more sales)
nice, i will check what the update is about, i actually wanted to replay your game soon, maybe retry speedrun, especially if it changes something big in the game
anyway, wish you luck, and be safe with the virus around man
I think you've gotta to contact professional reviewers (maybe even while the game is still in development), find Curators on Steam, promote the game in the LISA fanbase (I think you've linked it once in the Steam forum, but that's it ... I don't know about the situation now but some time ago there where active LISA-related Discord servers and an active fan art community).
By the way, I will keep making games (I'm currently working on a two new projects), but I don't have a lot of spare time anymore, so the chance I will finish anything in the foreseeable future is slim.
You might at least think about asking curators to review your game (in exchange for a free key), so you make it above the 40 or 50 reviews which are required for Steam so it won't take a game as scam.
That said, I understand marketing sucks and begging parasitic or narcistic curators for attention is no fun either. But there are some good ones out there as well.
Of course we sent tons of messages to curators/reviewers/youtubers/twitch streamers/etc, but to no avail. Not one single response. My guess is that a lot of people are sick and tired of quirky looking 2D action-adventure pixelart indie games, and when they see a screenshot they think: ♥♥♥♥ off, not another one. But that's just a theory so I don't have to blame myself for failing at marketing.
Maybe it's the somewhat MS-Paintish look which discourges people from giving it a try?
sorry i didn't really mean platforming in the sense we all think, just that it's a 2D plane with verticallity like in LISA, as in, you can move up and down the same way it's done there, that's about it haha ^^
oh ok, i will keep an eye on you my dude :)
if you manage to put something else up, maybe this time it will get more attention and then they will be able to discover Beyond a Total Loss that way
Is nice work still. I love this game.
Pray you will receive more success in the future work.
have a good day.
