Peltasts
Were they really considered elite troops? Was it just for the javelins or they did a lot of melee combat too? Ready for a history lesson if someone wants to humor me. ;)

Peltasts are part of the Macedonian elite core. In this time frame, they're an elite shock troop that carried the name over despite clearly not using the Pelte shields anymore, or being skirmishers. Instead they're much more ready to handle themselves in melee combat against other Hellenic or foreign foe.

The Macedonian Peltast is radically different from the Greek or even Thracian Peltasts of old. These are elite assault troops sent to flanks or as a last piece of the reserves along with the Thracian with the game. They do skirmish, but they are also very well equipped and trained in melee combat. Remember the Macedonian Phalanx is even more unmovable then older Greek Phalanx, but even more unflexible. The Flanking force and reserve force allow the Phalanx to hold the battleline. That is why the Peltasts are so well trained and are feared by the legionaires in game.
