Report a translation problem
In the final battle you need to break through the phalanx twice (there is two phases), then you need to pass an intelligence check, which lets you lead troops into the gap. Then there is an extra set of fights (close combat vs. phalangites and then a non time limit battle against some auxillaries). Not sure if the number of phalangite kills matters, I killed all before time limit. You might also have to be a centurion but you really should be at this point.
I recommend a natural swordsman with high str, quickness and int rolls to manage to get this reliably.
But now I have another question: My character unfortunately didn't become consul because he failed the necessary checks in the epilogue. Is the Grass Crown necessary to be elected consul or can you get that achievement without it?
Exactly. There is a check if you won a Civic Crown. Like all checks in the epilogue, there is no roll involved, only the raw values are considered. If you won two Civic Crowns, the check is easier. If you won three, or the Grass Crown, you are admitted with no checks.
After that, it works like this:
