This is how you can earn the Grass Crown:
In the final battle you need to break through the phalanx twice in a row and kill four phalangites each time. This will create a gap in the Macedonian formation. As a centurion with very high INT you can order your men to advance through the gap. Then there will be one last (very dangerous) fight against several Thracian warriors led by a chieftain. Kill them all in less than 60 rounds and the Grass Crown will be yours.
You will probably need to try this several times before you succeed, even with very powerful characters. Getting the Grass Crown is pretty much the most difficult (and amazing) thing you can do in this game.
Today I broke through the Phalanx twice. In one of the following fights one Phalangite survived by the skin of his teeth. Even through my Intelligence of 88 was easily enough to pass the hard check of 85, the option to rush into the gap was not shown. So It's definitively required to defeat all Phalangites in both battles.
As far as I know, this is not a change to previous versions of the game.
If you fail to kill any of the phalangites in time, there will be no gap in the Macedonian formation, and thus no chance to earn the Grass Crown.
