it may be that the goal of not adding this feature is to stay true to the original arcade game. this addition is not planned as of yet.
I've used to play Toki as a Kid. While I understand devs wants to keep it faithful to the 80's version, it's 2019 and a save feature is much appreciated.
My guess is a lot of people who is going to buy this game is people who played this in the 80 and would like to replay it, via steam, but unfortunately, like me, don't have that much free time anymore.
if you think there are 9 levels, to a very high difficulty. It is frustrating after a while to have to repeat the game several times, for example, to learn the boss (move set) of the third level.
I propose, to add the continues like Metal Slug, infinite. Or, add 9 credits per level, but when you get over them you have the opportunity to start from the last level. At least this in a separate way. Without checkpoint also is possible.
At the moment I think the game scares the vast majority of the target audience
Love that the remake stayed true regarding the difficulty, but complete lack of a save system is just a no for me, especially combined with the game being so hard. I don't mind the challenge, i was looking for it actually. But as people said, Toki fans these days just don't have enough time to play this in a sitting or something, families, work, take your pick. And restarting over and over again doesn't sound exactly ideal. Just a save between levels would be great, to have them all unlocked at a point, play any of them we would like etc. Things like that you expect from a game in 2019.

Also, if you really wanted to be faitfull to the original, you should've let us put in as many coins (continues) as we want to, much like we could in arcade:
Also, when you inserted the coin and hit the continue, you weren't put back to beginning of the level but to the last check point
But here another player states that there are no coins to use.
I'm holding buying the game because of reading this.
The game doesn't have not even checkpoints or coins?
You have to re-play the entire game from scratch and also win the complete game at once?
