(SPOILER) How do you escape the toad in Luma Pools

I keep trying but I can't do it. I prefer to play on normal mode, but when I escape bosses I normally switch to easy mode (because I guess I'm bad at video games, it seems). However, the sequel doesn't provide this option and I can't move away fast enough; he always gets to me. Does anyone know how to make the escape slightly easier and slower, or at least give frequent save points instead of making you start all the way back at the beginning every single time you die?

Is there a particular part you are having trouble with? If he is constantly catching up to you, I assume you aren't dashing frequently? The chase is only 30 seconds long, not much room for a checkpoint. Maybe try watching someone else do it to see how to do the problem areas.
