That said, while it's not the longest game, this game certainly doesn't feel too short in my opinion, and it's by far one of my most treasured, memorable gaming experiences to date. I would say that it is certainly worth the sale price of $10.
If you're concerned about linearity, don't be. About half of the game is entirely non-linear.
Really?
if i'm only getting ~ 10 hours out of this though, then ya, $10 is kinda steep. $1/hour is kind of bottom of the barrel content expectancy. especially in a "metroidvania".
my question has basically been answered from the first respondee.
if the game is ~10 hours long and only half of it is even metroidvania-esque. i would have not have been as happy with the purchase as you seem to be.
That said, I certainly understand where you're coming from. Deciding on a game to buy isn't always the easiest, especially if money is a factor that really matters to you. And what I have to say about this game could be said about Blasphemous for others. So I won't pressure you any further, other than to encourage you to look past the hour per dollar metric for just a moment.
this may be a great game, it has tons of good reviews, so i'm really not doubting that. glancing at it though, it seems to really fall short on the metroidvania aspect. which is really all i was curious about for now.
As for the 'Metroidvania aspect' I dunno what people are looking for. It for sure hits all the boxes of what one would expect in one. Hell people have complained the game is TOO inspired by Hollow Knight (I wouldn't say it is, just there are some similarities in some mechanics that aren't uncommon in the genre in general).
Even if it is a Jump and Run, or not, the Game glances uncomparable so far in its Genre and holds enough to go for some more Playthroughs.
Actually on Sale for Ten noone should say its not worth it.
Especially in Games that are comparably harder many Players have the tendency to boost themselfes by saying i did this easily ... in a short. Its just those Time where People define themselves via playing Games.
And especially the cool ones seem to be a bit irritated that this Games holds a lot more than just those cool onesided actions and brings a lot more on the emotional aspect, like just a few Games out there.
Falling short on the Metroidvania-aspect is not the Games Problem, its a Problem caused by the stupid Steamtags.
hollow knight is a good metroidvania, but it's also more than a metroidvania. this game has an art style somewhat reminiscent of it. which is mostly why i'm even looking at this.
hollow knight took me 40 hours for my first play-through. i got a lot of stuff, but nothing close to everything. i saw the game had multiple endings and picked it up again later to realize beating the game was barely scratching the surface. i now have over 260 hours into hollow knight and will continue to rack up more hours.
this is what baffles me with the metroidvania comparison. when i think metroidvania, i am mostly thinking metroid and castlevania. the games in these series are long, trial and error exploring with ability to progress upon finding the necessary treasures.
metroid and castlevania are just long play-throughs by the nature of it. hollow knight as well.
i'm not trying to be rude saying this, i'm just legit confused about these comparisons when i'm seeing 10 hour completions with first play-through.
i see 3 possibilities from that.
1. these people are lying about completing their "first" playthrough in 10 hours. or 100%ing the game 3x within 30hours. <-- paraphrased quote in reviews.
2. it's very linear and easy to complete within a short period of time.
3. it's an insanely small map and/or lacking content
i'm imagining #2, which isn't really a bad thing, but it's the opposite of a metroidvania.
this seemed more like a jump and run to me. which again, not a bad thing....
i still have interest in this game, but i wanted to know if this is a fast-paced "limbo", or a really short castlevania before debating it.
And i would say you pay for more than just blown up repeating streched Content.
But did you noticed already that this is the second part of the Game?
The game is also shorter in length but makes up for it in quality what is way more important in my oppinion
Quality over quantity
